The court martial of 1st Lt. Ehren Watada (a soldier who has refused to go to Iraq) ended in a mistrial yesterday, apparently as the result of a badly worded stipulation of facts. Watada’s attorneys intend to argue double jeopardy when the action is refiled.

Meanwhile, earlier in the week, Scooter Libby testified that he learned of Valerie Plame’s identity as CIA agent, then forgot, then learned about it again. Meanwhile, NBC newsman Tim Russert is calling Libby a liar.

In Texas, the California Attorney General is accusing PALCO of “manufacturing” a venue to duck California creditors. As Hank Sims pointed out, it also avoids local media scrutiny.

From the Times Standard:

”This office is, literally, a phone booth used to manufacture venue in Texas for the bankruptcy case,” state attorneys wrote in their motion.

Oh, and there was a marijuana bust in Humboldt County yesterday. Also, General Francisco Franco is still dead.

Speaking of which, I’m hoping to see Pan’s Labyrinth this weekend. Anybody seen it who can share some thoughts?
