I see you are using the same theme as I use. I hope you put up a custom header. Maybe a picture of something SoHum.

Is it? Sorry. I’m not really happy with the selection, so maybe I’ll try to customize. If I can figure out how.

I change my header all of the time. The only issue I have is that WordPress only allows a certain size for the image, so if you are using a larger pic, it may cut away most of it. So try and find a picture that can be edited down to still have the effect you want.
I think we are similar minds. After I browsed all of the themes, I liked this one better then the others.

While you continue to mull over some relevant text for this here About page, you might also consider disabling the snap preview. It’s really freaking annoying. With all the links on the page it’s too easy to accidentally set it off and conger up the useless little screen that blocks the view of your blog content. Please take it under consideration.

Snap view? Oh, the thingy that makes a box when the mouse passes the marker over it? Yeah, it is annoying.
I’ll shut it off. Can you tell me how to make a post so that only a portion of it is on the main page when it’s long?
March 2, 2009 at 12:15 am
Heraldo
Thanks.
To only post the first part of a post on the front page with a link to the rest of the story, notice the button to the left of the spell check button on your compose page. If you hover your cursor over it, it says “Insert more tag.”
Put your cursor where you want to split the text and hit the button.

Erik,
I see that you are ‘leaning” towards supporting the Richardson Grove Highway project. I suggest you read our position paper, maybe it will influence the direction of your leaning. How can I send it to you, along with a short power-point?

Barbara O' Brien
Erik,
My name is Barbara O’ Brien and my blogging at The Mahablog, Crooks and Liars, AlterNet, and elsewhere on the progressive political and health blogophere has earned me the notoriety of being a panelist at the Yearly Kos Convention and a featured guest blogger at the Take Back America Conference in Washington, DC.
I’m contacting you because I found your site in a prominent political and health reform blog search and want to tell you about my newest blogging platform —the public concern of health care and its reform. Our shared concerns include health reform, public health, safe workplaces, and asbestos contamination.
To increase awareness on these important issues, my goal is to get a resource link on your site or even allow me to provide a guest posting. Please contact me back, I hope to hear from you soon. Drop by our site in the meantime—www.maacenter.org/blog.
Happy Holidays,
Barbara O’ Brien

Eric,
That was pretty cool the way you stopped putting up the people who had posted last and to what, that will sure kill the Park threads, good job. Now I know why you were hand picked as a Park Director, you fit right in!

Richard "Rick" Khamsi
I have made a channel at YouTube.com called “RickKhamsi” – where you can see some of the things I care about. The series I made of a rally at the Humboldt County Courthouse features about 30 speakers. We were there to urge young people, especially Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer and Questioning kids , to “choose life” despite the pain they are feeling now.
Each speaker in childhood had to face the choice to live or die and had chosen life. This really touched a chord in my heart. Go there and you will hear and see these life-affirming messages. God willing, you will choose to do something to “make ‘the now’ better” for the kids who are suffering now.

Richard "Rick" Khamsi
The easiest way to find the videos of the rally is to go to YouTube.com and enter the search words Humboldt Gay Pride or the related words queer, lesbian, transgender, or LGBTQ. Eric, I wonder how many people who care about the issue of youthful despair and suicide will see these messages here in this location. Maybe you could “escalate the propaganda?”

Richard – I would love to, but I’m not very knowledgeable on the subject. If you would like to write up a guest post and email it to me I will post it.

Eric, even though you’re Protestant several generations removed from Catholic by childhood upbringing. Why no posting about the president’s speech on the middle east peace process and the subsequent many sided furor?
May 25, 2011 at 2:46 pm

Just haven’t had the time to catch up on the issue. It’s an issue which requires more than a link with a two-sentence summary.
As to my denomination, the last generation of any God-believing religion was my grandmother on my mother’s side. She was Catholic. My grandfather married to her probably believed in God, but didn’t really attend Church. On my father’s side they were communists, which is in my view a religion as well.

Hello Mr. K,
I’d like ask if you would consider carrying Charles Douglas’ Humboldt Sentinel website on your site’s sidebar?
Charles has worked very hard developing and improving his site. He’s done many segments covering local issues– and interviewing local politicos for both Access Humboldt and the video version of the Sentinel. He has your site linked to his.
You can check out his site here. It’s a good addition, I think: http://humboldtsentinel.com/
Me? I’m simply helping Charles out for his countless volunteer hours he’s done for the community. I have his permission sending this to you– and he’d be delighted if you would link his site on your sidebar. Thank you for your consideration and helping out Charles’ site.
yours,
skippy

Dude, update your links. Arcata Can Be Better isn’t even accessible any longer.

There’s an eloquent and powerful Op-Ed piece in today’s Times-Standard, addressing the need for a public restroom in downtown Arcata. It’s written by Marcia Tauber, who together with her hubbie Simeon, owns Simply Macintosh, which has been located on the Arcata Plaza for many years now.
http://www.times-standard.com/guest_opinion/ci_19338431
So it looks like Arcata is going to do a pretty thorough exploration of what would be the most durable and least vandalizable public restroom designs, and come up with some options. It seems like folks from Garberville and Redway might want to check out the options that Arcata comes up with for this kind of permanent pulic restroom facility.
Of course this being Arcata and all, it’ll probably take quite a while for them to work their way through the process, and in the meantime I think we should be moving ahead ASAP with at least a temporary “porta-potty” solution.

disclosure
It has occurred to me that Elan Firpo’s answer during the League of Women Voters debate concerning the impact of Calif. Penal Code section 1192.6 on the plea bargain she entered into in the Ferrer case was “I don’t know” totally estops Paul Gallegos from arguing that Elan Firpo made ANY EFFORT AT ALL to follow that law, so he can just give it up.
Mr. Gallegos should have told the Judge: “Your honor, I guess the good news is that the malfeasance and nonfeasance by Deputy District Attorney Firpo was not a malicious and intentional misleading of the court, but instead the product of ignorance, inexperience, and sloth. And of course, my utter failure to train and supervise the junior lawyers to whom I assign these most serious of cases.”

I appreciated your show on conspiracy theories and critical thinking. Perhaps you could address one of the big ones – climate change- especially since one of KMUD’s talk show hosts brought up climate change as a hoax citing Lord Monckton as a reputable source. This short article http://grist.org/politics/the-right-wing-climate-denial-machine-is-churning-faster-than-ever/? may be of use.
I realize that KMUD may offer many points of view, but climate change is not an opinion or a belief, but rather the best explanation that we have for processes and events happening in the climate/weather realm.
