Check out LoCO too. Elan Firpo is in the race as of Nov 4th thanks to one Gumshoes McBlogger.

I wonder if there was anything more behind it than family concerns. I’ve heard more discontent on the internet over the last year than usual, perhaps initial polling didn’t look good.

My guess is he just had enough. There is only so much one can take and he was a real lightning rod of controversy, you all know more about why than I do, but the Right really didn’t like him – “watchpaul” and all that baloney. Oh well, I’m disappointed, but it will be a very interesting race starting 2 hours ago.
My opinion only, but I don’t think his reelection would have been a problem unless there is something we don’t know about.

Not surprised. Have talked with Paul many times and am convinced he isn’t a politician. He’s simply a criminal attorney with interest in justice. Its an accident of history that the DA, sheriff, clerk, coroner are elective offices while (for example)county health officer isn’t.

NAN,
In many counties the Sheriff is also the coroner. Clerks have never been an elected position. It’s the Recorder position in CA. INC. that is no longer an elected position, 15+ years now -truly sad. The counter trolls, after wandering around behind the counter with your document that you want to record into the Public, beLIEves they (somehow) can make a legal determination for any one of the people who is there to file. Happens to me all the time. My response . . . “DO NOT take my private business document around to any other clerks for their opinion to record or not. Go get your supervisor and two Complaint forms. One for you and one for your supervisor who didn’t train you correctly, bring the D.A. here also. If they do any groveling, exit down to Risk Management, fill out two complaint forms there and attach your doc as evidence – NOW it’s recorded into the Public 🙂 OR, if you’re into Public Theater, as some of us are, get the Sheriff to come and arrest the clerk for impersonating a Public Servant. i haven’t done this one yet.
Commerce exists on presumptions. Record into the Public a correct document w/Attached Fee Schedule, testifying (right hand up taking an oath to a Notary) that your doc is true under penalties w/perjury. This is pre-emptive action, claiming your rights.
There are many ways to record into the Public. Depending on my mood, and how much time my witnesses have, whenever Humboldt’s Recorder’s (?) office clerks hassle me, i record in Pinal County, Arizona -much cheaper, and the Recorder there is an elected official, i.e. they are very knowledgeable and will answer your questions -most helpful. They will record anything -no questions asked – AS IT SHOULD BE!

Martin Luther King talked of our Constitution as flawed but holding a promise of liberty and equality. Like him, my mother fed me the line of hope buttressed with hard work. Certainly I agree with your opinion , Joe Blow, that the criminal justice system is seriously flawed, even to the point of being too often an injustice system.
But the topic here is Mr. Gallegos. As Joe values observation I will share one of mine: There may have been others in the Courthouse and law enforcement who saw the injustice of imposing on one group a rule not imposed before. But he is the only one that did something about it, despite the fact that some in the group had and would continue to verbally attack him. Those with aa ax to grind against this one group welded their word axes at him, falsely accusing him of giving total immunity.
From what I have observed from news accounts, discussions with him and with others, I agree with NAN, Mr. Gallegos does have a sincere interest in justice.

Worthless opinions, literal observations and personal experience – my experience with Paul Gallegos is one of a “sincere interest in justice” for those select elites that dictate in this county. His form of justice is to protect those “select” criminals that are guilty. His record speaks for itself.

Janelle,
~so titles of nobility are okay with you? And allegiance to a foreign jurisdiction is also okay with you?
Who illegally and unlawfully gave the command for the Nov. 7, 3:00 A.M. raid on the sleeping Occupiers? How many Occupiers had to have medical treatment for broken body parts? How many of the Occupiers spent 8 days caged with no charges ever brought forward? At that same time who caged the trimmers with the Occupiers? Trimmers and Occupiers caged together, what could be more humiliating? My friends in Sonoma County had a good laugh over that one -i had to hang my head.
Justice? Sleep on Janelle zzzzzzzzzz.

Who illegally and unlawfully gave the command for the Nov. 7, 3:00 A.M. raid on the sleeping Occupiers? The command was given before October ended. Every Supervisor knew it was coming, at least none expressed surprise when they were told there would be “NO movement against the Occupy Eureka camp tonight.” That was Oct 31, a couple days before Gallegos was contacted and asked to join the club. He did join it, but his message seemed to point in a different direction then send in the troops in a surprise early morning raid.
But for those who joined the other club, the everybody in that building or wearing a uniform are horrible people club, there are no shades of grey or green or purple or red. It is black or white, you are with us or against us.
Joe Blow, your opinions are your opinions, like everyone’s some are good and some miss the mark; the only difference I see is that you are very free with them, but as you say opinions are worthless, so why not?
Yes, hope buttressed with hard work, a very strong line from a strong, independent, and fun loving woman.
A peaceful Thanksgiving all.

Janelle Egger needs to consult her dictionary and take to heart the difference between HER worthless opinions and my observations. Second, she needs to consult her dictionary on the meaning of hypocrisy and take it to heart when she wishes everyone a “peaceful Thanksgiving” immediately after she makes false accusations and filthy lies judging me like God Almighty. Your words above make war, not peace, woman and that is NEITHER an opinion nor an observation, it is a simple truth.

Janelle,
You miss the whole point of chain-of-command. If the police make a show, it’s SUPPOSED TO BE under the command of a Police Chief -ONLY when one of the people calls for help. Not a planned raid!!! Supervisors and
D. A.’s and other alleged Public Servants have no business commandeering the police or the deputies. Can you guess who gives the command to the Deputies Janelle? I mean legally and lawfully, not the three-ring circus of authority fixation that continues to this day. Christ, doesn’t anyone of those Public Servant impersonators have a clue what their job description is?
When that planned raid happened, I asked ol Paul who gave the command (since there wasn’t a Chief of Police at that time) to go in and beat on and injure a peaceful assemblage of the people –they were SLEEPING Janelle! He arrogantly admitted that he did. What each and every one of those “color of law” costume wearing Persons did and continue to do, is unforgivable. Who called them? Where was the emergency?
It’s called career criminal racketeering.
Like I said, just snooze on Janelle. You’re pretty clueless about how a correct government functions –for the people.

There was an interim chief; there was a plan for Oct 31; the interim chief balked; the DA was called on to provide the justification, he did, it was bogus, but it would have justified the County trying to get the civil courts to order the tents removed after giving notice. The Nov 7 and 14 raids were surprise early morning razing based on what? They were asked in writing by the County to enforce the camping ban, but they cleared the area totally, going beyond arresting people under the no camping law, way beyond removing the tents. There was no emergency. I agree the raids were illegal and unjust attacks on a peaceful assembly.
A peaceful Thanksgiving all. (you too, JB)

Janelle,
Yes I’m aware that there was an (I)nterim Chief of Police. If you would have checked that year -2011, you would have found that this same thing happened all over California, leaving many cities without a Chief of Police –coincidence? I think not (not that the Policy Police are Constitutional anyway). Now the cities have Police Chiefs answering to an unelected For-Profit Corporate employee “City Manager.” TOTALLY unlawful. Curious minds want to know ~how does the Mayor stand without a spine?
“. . .would have justified the County trying to get the Civil Courts to order the tents removed . . .” That’s psychobabble Janelle. The County is you and me, us, we the people. Our Sheriff is our highest elected official. The pasty-white Soups don’t mean squat –they just ramble on about an (O)rdinance, that when brought to the light, can’t hold water PERIOD. “Civil Courts”??????? WTF are you talking about? There are only but two types of courts Janelle (Globally) – Administrative under the Sea Merchant Rule and Common Law (land). “Civil Rights” are for Babble-On slaves who wander blindly onto a foreign vessel in dry dock, (‘court’). They don’t know where they are, they don’t know why they’re there, they don’t even know that they’ve left Kansas (land).
“They were asked in writing (OH MY!) by the County . .. “ Again, what are you talking about? The Soups asked??? It’s NOT their place! Do I have certified copies of each Supes. Oath? You bet your bottom I do. And guess what? There’s no mention of (O)rdinances, Codes, Statutes, Rules or Regs. in their Oaths. ILLUSION @ $80,000 each + benefits for all extended family members, including their pets, and their neighbors, and the neighbors pets too, early retirement, CalPers up the gazoo, travel expense –and the list goes on.

queenoftheforest, Rather than chastise me for not having checked on what was happening to police chiefs “all over California’ perhaps you would like to share what you found when you checked; Where else police chiefs were fired? Perhaps other cities had also been involved in a lawsuit in civil court re police beating a man and leaving him untreated in jail and just been handed a order to pay a few million (courts can only award money, they cannot resuscitate a dead man).
While I have no illusions that our Constitution with Amendments, elections, civil servants, criminal and civil justice systems are perfect, neither are monarchs, Sea Merchant Rule and Common Law.
The written request came from unelected staff who, as far as I know, signed no oath but receive more per year than the Supervisors. All the Supervisors knew about the planned Oct 31 action. Not all of them knew about Nov 7.
As I have been battling for civil rights I assume you would include me as among the babble-on slaves. Well, if QUEENoftheforest so proclaims, it must be true.
