A minority of gullible Americans elected a dangerous f—ing child to the Presidency. And many of those same people would do it again. I mean, I get that you’re in one of the largest cults since Germany circa 1936. But at a certain point you have to wake up!

He delivered for the radical religious right. I don’t think it matters to them that he’s broken the country, though they might be upset that he didn’t pull off his coup. Remember when Hillary was criticized for using the phrase “basket of deplorables” in front of some donors? Lock her up! Q!

Klepper’s video brings to mind something that was said to me as a graduate student at Western Washington University. It was during the Nixon era and I had expressed frustration concerning the number of people who were willing to vote for him. My friend shrugged his shoulder and said, “There are idiots out there, John. And they are legion.”
You’re still right, Joe.

This morning’s headlines include the unsourced assertion that the secret service agents will deny trump lunged at one of them or made a move in the direction of the steering wheel. We’ll see if they testify under oath. Yesterday’s testimony about what happened in the car was only about what someone told Hutchison. Perhaps Deputy Chief of Staff Ornato or Agent Engel were “embellishing” a stroy. It never made sense to me that trump would have been in a position to grab the steering wheel, and this would go a long way towards discrediting all of yesterday’s testimony; perhaps the valets will be called to testify about trump’s dining room tantrums. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/jun/29/secret-service-agent-testify-trump-wheel-jan-6

Trump was obviously going off his rocker after losing the election but I am a little dubious he grabbed the steering wheel from the Secret Service Agent. It would have been quite a distance from where he was sitting in the back seats.

Why would the committee allow this bombshell testimony if there were doubts about it? I heard about the secret service on first Beck’s show today and they brought up the same thing Mitch just did. Why didn’t we hear this skepticism yesterday from our side?
Was the point just to get this image of a deranged and violent President out there, even if it wasn’t solid info?
BTW this is the first time in two weeks that I heard the hearings mentioned on Beck’s show. The intent to bring it up now is to discredit the entire hearings obviously.

Dems are dumb
He was chosen as the least worst candidate.
The 2 most unliked candidates on record. Remember Hillary chose pro life Tim Kane.
She ran a horrible campaign, and is just terrible on the campaign trail. Yes she really was the most qualified pres candidate in history, and yes Bernie would have won.
But I think you might have a rematch coming up. Biden isn’t running, he can barely function now. Did you see the cheat sheet he had for the wind meeting? The rest of the crop isn’t worth much.

It will be interesting to see whether the secret service supervisor Engels was embellishing his story to Hutchinson and is willing to admit that, or if he just lies under oath. I know who I’d trust if there’s a conflict between the two testimonies — there is absolutely no reason for Hutchinson to have made up her story, while it would not surprise me to think that the secret service protection detail can get cushy jobs at Mar a Lago when they retire, and I’d imagine those chosen for trump’s detail were those who didn’t find trump repulsive, which makes them trumpers.

Not just yes-men, macho yes men, telling their tales to a then 24 year old woman. “Yeah, we had to pull his hands off the steering wheel.”
It really doesn’t seem mysterious to me. The shame of this is that the right will use this to change the narrative, when the critical part — that trump wanted to go to the Capitol, knowing that armed people were rioting there — is uncontested.
June 29, 2022 at 12:56 pm
Eric Kirk
Possible Democratic presidential candidates in 24 besides Biden and Harris are Gavin Newsom, Gretchen Whitmer, Sherrod Brown, Ro Khanna (taking up Bernie’s banner), Stacy Abrams (if she defeats Kemp in November), Mitch Landrieu, and Mark Kelly (assuming he wins reelection in Arizona as he probably will).
Whitmer is walking on water in Michigan right now – crushing her Republican opposition in polls and doing very well in approval polls even though Biden is doing horribly in the same polling samples. She’s probably the strongest candidate at this point.

Eric, I believe Hutchinson is telling the truth but the person who had first hand info on it is lying to her. Maybe “embellish” is a more polite term but this story has to be false.
June 29, 2022 at 4:12 pm

Ornato may have embellished in the account he gave to Hutchinson, or he could have outright lied to her, or maybe his account to her was more or less accurate but he regrets being so candid with her at the time and is dissembling now. Either way I’d like to see him asked, point blank, under oath, what he remembers happening, and what he remembers telling Hutchinson.
Like maybe Trump was totally calm, cool and collected when his driver and Secret Service detail refused to take him to the Capitol (pretty unlikely IMHO), or maybe there was an outburst but it wasn’t physical, or maybe there was a physical outburst but it wasn’t quite as dramatic as Ornato apparently told Hutchinson, or maybe it pretty much was.
The thing is, this wouldn’t be the first time this particular guy has been reported to say one thing, and later denied it. At some point you have to wonder whether everyone else is lying/misremembering, or whether maybe he is.

In any event, I agree with Mitch that the more important part of the story is that Trump was told that armed people were being turned away from his rally by the Secret Service, which was screening them using magnetometers, so he tried to get the Secret Service to stop the screening and let the armed people in, and specifically said he didn’t care because they weren’t there to hurt him and that he was fine with having these armed supporters then march from his rally to the Capitol.
Backstage at the rally, Trump was irate that people with weapons were not being let through the magnetometers by Secret Service officers and agents who screen all attendees at any event featuring a sitting president. But Trump wanted the armed individuals to be allowed to attend the rally and complained that the magnetometers were adversely affecting his crowd size, Hutchinson overheard. The latter was a constant theme of his term in office.
“I don’t f—ing care that they have weapons. They’re not here to hurt me,” Trump said, according to Hutchinson’s recollection. “Take the f—ing mags away. Let my people in. They can march to the Capitol from here. Let the people in. Take the f—ing mags away.”

The only thing I’d trust would be video and audio from inside the vehicle. How sad that I just assume the secret service lies when it thinks it can get away with it. I am not distracted by Ornato and Engel’s posturing about whether tRump lunged for the steering wheel.
Ornato and Engel are maga losers and thereby not credible. tRump chose them for that. Just like he chose Meadows as his chief of staff. “Tony Ornato, (Secret Service) who was also a deputy chief of staff in the Trump White House, and Robert Engel, (Secret Service) who was Trump’s security chief.”
Ornato and Engel do not dispute tRumps outrage at not being taken to the Capitol to lead the attack.

The committee’s “Perry Mason” moment is backfiring. There’s no way that “young woman” is at any personal risk. She wasn’t selected for her job by scoring high on a civil service exam. She undoubtedly has political connections who pulled strings for her. That’s simply how it works. Those connections endure and ensure her future comfort and privilege are secure.
Since Kirk’s opinions typically regurgitate pundits and polls, here’s the latest: “..survey from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research finds that 31%[of US adults] say he[Trump] should not be charged[with a crime]. No surprise there. Those Trump defenders are largely geographically rural Republicans who turn out to vote in nigh percentages. Anti-democratic gerrymandering and SCOTUS enabled voter suppression means that 31% supplemented with the uninvolved but “I always vote Republican” will have power to determine the Nov. congressional outcome. And the suburban DINO’s, now registered Republicans. motivated by inflation pocketbook(IRA) stress and crime/immigration fearmongering will aid the Nov. outcome.

Kirk, being a realist doesn’t make me a Trumper. You’ve not learned from Hillary’s error of ignoring and ridiculing Trump’s appeal. There’s a reason despots, dictators, authoritarians, and tyrants attain and retain power. It’s because they support and are supported by people who are benefiting from their being in power. If 30% comprises the “right people”, it’s extremely significant. “First Class Passengers on a Sinking Ship” presents clear and compelling historical analysis of why it is.

Witness tampering.

I’ve wondered why the committee would have allowed Hutchinson to testify about what someone told her, when it left her open to that person simply lying. Perhaps the committee’s investigators have already caught Ornato and Engel in demonstrable lies?
I’m continually amazed at how “sticky” trump’s support is. The problem is not trump — the problem is trumpers. I don’t know how you get a jury to unanimously convict when a third of your jury pool is poisonous, but I still hope and expect indictment of trump, because their absence would be a statement that in today’s Murkah some people are above the law.

One thing I keep in mind about the witnesses is that they are mostly or all people who remained silent for a very long time as trump exhibited 25th amendment and/or criminal behavior while they watched.
Now I certainly don’t expect a 25 year old who has landed in the chief of staff’s office to have to be the one that first steps forward with the truth, but I can see the amount of bravery it would take, particularly when to do it you have to fire the mob lawyer you’d been assigned, and after you’ve watched all these people you must have looked up to lying continually, or refusing to testify to the truth.
I feel sorry for anyone who, basically just out of college, might have suffered with the idea that this was just how the oval office operated. There is no reason I can think of that a 25 year old trump supporter would go up against every single one of her “superiors” by making up a lie. In fact, the only reason I can think of for a 25 year old trump supporter to admit the truth, when she sees it is not being otherwise exposed, is patriotism.
One of the marvels of the trump administration is how many people in various places in government were willing to tell the truth and stand up to an administration of liars, at great personal cost. I’m thinking Vindman and others from the Russia investigation, not just the Jan 6 hearings.

…orchestrating after designing an “ear witnesses” as an “eye-witness” is futile in law and order… as well as negating fictional attempts at inventing truths…

it sucks that people are so partial toward the “he said, she said” bullshit… just to get politically what they desire as an outcome…
…no wonder politics kill friendships and families… people can’t or won’t support facts, but rather invent their own example of this notion of truth…
…smh at voters and pundits and protesters and critiques, etc…, just insanity really…

There’s probably no more vivid example of how far the GOP has descended into idiocy and madness than the fact that Liz Cheney is expected to lose the GOP Senate nomination in Wyoming, probably by a wide margin, to one of the moronic crackpots on this debate stage.
At this point the GOP is basically just an empty shell of a political party, now under the control of an increasingly deranged conspiracy cult.

Accounts of Trump angrily demanding to go to Capitol on January 6 circulated in Secret Service over past year
“Like Hutchinson, one source, a longtime Secret Service employee, told CNN that the agents relaying the story described Trump as “demanding” and that the former President said something similar to: “I’m the f**king President of the United States, you can’t tell me what to do.” The source said he originally heard that kind of language was used shortly after the incident.
“He had sort of lunged forward — it was unclear from the conversations I had that he actually made physical contact, but he might have. I don’t know,” the source said. “Nobody said Trump assaulted him; they said he tried to lunge over the seat — for what reason, nobody had any idea.”
The employee said he’d heard about the incident multiple times as far back as February 2021 from other agents, including some who were part of the presidential protective detail during that time period but none of whom were involved in the incident.”

PA> “At this point the GOP is basically just an empty shell of a political party, now under the control of an increasingly deranged conspiracy cult.”
Not empty of anything except integrity.
It’s a party with the ability to prevent anything from passing in Congress, the ability to install cult members in positions to count the vote in many jurisdictions, ownership of a substantial fraction of the electorate, and almost certainly financial support from those deadly 500 wealthiest families.
Meanwhile, the democrats are still apparently questioning whether they should bypass the filibuster.

…any enviro complaints will be an illusion, an act of pulling faces that opposition exists…
…but in reality it won’t, don’t and can’t apply as opposition when the original plan is to revoke later, and when revoked… all has passed and is quiet again…

Seth, that last post was informative…Trump not allowed to go to DC Capitol because the SS deemed it not safe, a security threat… essentially the prez is not allowed their autonomous personal decision making…
…and the whole lunge story had no steering wheel-gate involved…
…basically learned in class today that we all sat in a circle, and in counter-clockwise rotation, some words were whispered into only one ear…and like dominoes, each person was responsible for secretly whispering into the ears of their shoulder-rubber sitting next to them what they were told by the previous shoulder-rubber on the other side…
…and at the end, the very last classmate in the circle-jerk, crossing the finish line is set-to-testify…
…the original engine words were compared with those words of the caboose…
…boy, what a story that veered far from the path…

I’m glad President Biden sees the need to make an exception. Bodily autonomy is not the only issue, in my opinion, that is significant enough to bypass the filibuster. We need to understand that minority rule is already in place, so at this point the filibuster is like requiring 70% – 80% on any progressive issue.

Minority Rule – like the body inside the body…which autonomy is greater than the sum of 2 autonomously seperate but equal bodies…lol
…liberals make a mockery of life, equality and the American Dream…among many matters of hypocrisy…

I agree. And I think this issue is the one that may finally break the logjam.
Of course when Republicans, at some point, have the Presidency and both Houses of Congress, they will do great damage without the ability to block them through the use of the filibuster. That’s what’s been holding Democrats back (and conversely, what has held Republicans back from fully ending the filibuster when they’ve had a non-filibuster-proof majority in the Senate).
Another downside to ending the filibuster is that we’ll probably have more situations where policies are passed by a narrow margin and then reversed just a couple of years later by a similarly narrow margin. This could easily happen with abortion rights, in either direction. In other words Democrats could codify abortion rights, then a couple years later Republicans could repeal that and pass a nationwide abortion ban…and so on.
On balance, I think ending the filibuster entirely is still worth it. I creates clearer lines of accountability for voters to judge the performance of the parties by.
Meanwhile there’s another mechanism for enacting more durable changes that require supermajority support: Amending the Constitution. Much harder to do, but also much harder to reverse.

even if given the chance to pass laws for mandatory abortions for the offspring of liberals only, anti-abortionists would not do it… that is a major difference betwen the reasonablness factor of lifers versus murderes…

Here ya go JW, Biden is playing deceptive again…
“The Department of the Interior (DOI) plan included the possibility of the federal government holding up to 11 lease sales off the coast of Alaska and in the Gulf of Mexico over the five-year period between 2023-2028. However, the plan also put forward the option of the federal government holding no lease sales in that same time period.”
