It’s about the size of the Eureka Coop in its 5th Street location. It looks great, and it was doing lots of business when I was in there this morning. It wraps commerce right around the Town Square – with further upgrades in the works. Between the makeover Chautaqua and the addition of King Range Books to make Garberville a two-bookstore town once again, things are looking up!

They did a beautiful job, inside and out. Lots of hard work paid off. Looking forward to the new cafe in the old building.

Absolutely beautiful, except the cement outside. It looks unfinished.

King Range Books is one, but where’s the 2nd bookstore?

Paul Encimers book store next to the laundromat. Eric, did you happen to catch the KMUD news this morning? Estelle was on. She was saying how she wanted to follow Mendocino’s amnesty program here. Now didn’t she lambast Clif as a cookie cutter politician when he brought up the Mendocino amnesty program? Didn’t she say we need to come up with our own amnesty program? And now she is talking like Clif. What’s up with that?

I’m not a rich dope grower & I shop there. Their prices are much better than they were & it’s healthy, organic food. A great addition to Southern Humboldt.

The cement stucco may be painted, and it is a lovely way to NOT use wood on your building. Think of a garden wall in Herculaneum, Italy. The prices in the meat dept. are really good, and I agree as a whole, that the prices are much better than they were. The entrance way pergola needs to be covered with clear greenhouse material though, so that the entire ramp is protected from the rain.

Don’t they also have 3 or 4 low income apartments upstairs?

I heard the rents for those will be $1500. That certainly isn’t low income. They would maybe be considered below average income. Or a low medium income. What’s the whole story on the rent? Does it include utilities?
That area of Garberville isn’t suited for low income rentals anyway. Just a thought. Maybe there are some options for true low income housing out by where you live ICU?

No Coo, nothing up by me. It is a good idea Chautaqua put in housing, its kind of like a small scale smart growth development. I think Garberville is built out, including its community services district. There was talk about more apartments being put in behind Ray’s Market, don’t know if they will be low-income or not. I had also heard the next housing development will be proposed between Redway and Garberville, across the river from the bluff’s.

Yes, it is wonderful that Chautaqua put in apartment/housing. It isn’t low income housing though. I misinterpreted your statement I think. If what you are hearing about the next housing development proposal is true, I think that would really be sad.
