In case you missed it, last week’s NCJ cover article was all about bars in the far reaches of the county. Some good stories about Sohum’s bars – everything from swaztikas and dying for the Tea Party to pole dancing.

This article shows once again how lame and Eureka/Arcata centric the NCJ is. No one in their right mind would consider Ferndale, 20 minutes from Eureka, located in the far reaches, nor Rio Dell.

Well at least they didn’t include the Tip Top Club.

I don’t believe the Tip Top Club has a liquor license.

How come everyone knows this except me?!

Don’t know, but it would be an easy mistake to make. What kind of topless club doesn’t have liquor? I’ve only been there once when it was closed to visit the owner, T. Great Razooly, about some political issue. Don’t remember where I heard they didn’t have a liquor license. Maybe he told me.

suzy blah blah
Well at least they didn’t include the Tip Top Club.
-could be they’re saving the Tip Top for a cover story in itself. Naw, they’ll never do that. Suzy’s just dreaming. They’re professionals with a reputation to uphold. But maybe you could cover the story Eric. With lotsa interviews and photos. Give it a political twist. The comment section would be precious.

Actually, there was a great story a few years ago. Some of the women sued Razooly for back pay. I think they won.

And that was bogus, as far as I was concerned. I happened to know one of the girls- a fellow libertarian- and told her so.
I suppose you could call it back pay, but the girl that started it insisted that they should have been paid minimum wage, despite being private contractors.
The thing that swayed the judge seemed to be that Razooly had a book of rules that the girls were required to comply with while working. That supposedly made them “employees”. I’d say that’s wrong as private contractors can be held to rules of conduct by a property owner just as everyone else is.
I ended up calling the girl I knew on the phone regarding a different issue shortly after that. Still, I started out with, “BTW, that was bullshit you guys suing him over..blah, blah, blah”. She replied, “I knew I was going to catch a bunch of shit over this”.
Oh, and Razooly’s attorney in the case: the notorious Jason Singleton.

Think I’ve seen ads lately that say the tiptop now has a beer/wine license. And I recall a NCJ article about how the entertainers there felt good about the flexible hours and making much more there than they could at other jobs. Specially the ones attending college.
My observation is that HumCo is essentailly Puritanical and deeply socially conservative. Locals hold that trafficking in illegal pot simply for the outsize profit is honorable while getting naked and exhibitiing your body legally for good money is shameful..
