If you are in the Garberville Sanitary District and you live west of the highway, then you need to boil your tap water before drinking it. I just heard the announcement on the radio. Don’t have any more details.

WTF
Only the ratepayers on the West side of 101?

Or their tenants, or anyone taking anything out of that portion of the water system.

Sounds like a sub-contractor got some dirt in the lines while they were hooking up the fire system at the old school building now CR campus.

I see trucks taking water out of the hydrants in Garberville all the time. These are private companies that then sell the water. I can’t see any meters on the hydrants. Maybe they have taken more than they should and gone to the bottom of the water source? Sort of bringing up the dregs? I don’t know? But I do hope that the Garberville Water is getting something from all this.

And where is all that water from the South Fork Eel River watershed that is being diverted unmetered from the fire hydrant into trucks going, do ya suppose?
This week there was an article in NCJ about water grabs.
The article also gave a lot of space to the storage and forebearance program in the Mattole. Said that the 50,000 gal tank he visited in the mattole was full to the brim “buoyed by recent summer rains.” Yeah, right, the recent rain of less than half an inch?
Now the county has succumbed to letting good stewards subdivide without sufficient water in the Mattole watershed as long as they put in a big tank.
Does the forebearance agreement require not filling your tank from other watersheds?
If not, this is a serious oversight. After all, that program is an experiment.
I hear that the East Branch is another popular watering hole for the private contractors selling water outside the watershed.

The water trucks that take water are on an “honor” system. The water trucks tell the Garberville Water System how much water they take each month, then GSD sends out a bill to the water companies. A system ripe to be abused. How much water do they take and not pay for?

Eric, It is true. It was before the planning commission about a year and a half ago, the Goff property in the Mattole watershed. Later I asked Kirk Girard about it and he said yes, once one landowner can do it, others can, too. He said the county worked hard with the “groups” and he was really happy about it but his face fell when I said they might be filling tanks from the South Fork.
I don’t see on the forbearance agreement any agreement not to buy water out of another watershed. It needs to be addressed.
Let it be discussed in the open, please.

WTF
Wow, it sounds like the Mattole Restoration Council is robbing peter to pay paul, buying water from the South Fork Eel River to fill their tanks during the summer as they fine-tune and develop their water forbearance agreements for property owners on the Mattole watershed.
It sure sounds good until you find out where their water is purchased from. Maybe someone could test the water in those Mattole water storage tanks, see if it came from that un-metered fire hydrant in Garberville?

Sell your Gland property for profit due to premium PG&E prices and then spend a small pittance on a Shelter Cove foreclosure. Then you too can pay your fair share of utility taxes and support the government administrators and insiders.
