Yes, Suzy. If the stories are at all accurate, then Christ was a Rabbi. He would have been part of the equivalent of a local ruling counsel under the Roman occupying authority. The first "legislation" (listed in scripture) he tried to get through was to remove the 'money changers' (bankers) from the temple (regulated trade area) because they were essentially leeches on society. A very early 99%er.

If you are making a satirical comment on how modern "religious" politicians abuse his name & misrepresent his teachings, then ... Oh, wait! Indeed.

Erasmus... No, they are not government specialties. They are the specialties of assholes who are allowed to influence government. When fraud happens in the government it's because some douche-bag is profiting from it.

Individuals in the government commit fraud AGAINST it, then complete morons translate that to mean that the government itself is fraudulent. When tea-baggers talk about wanting "smaller" government, it's very much like an idiot complaining about how inefficient and slow the freeway is & then demand that it be made "smaller." Because removing a lane will really help during rush hour...

BTW- Artists create subjective value, so are dependent on a social/governmental support. Sometimes that is wealthy patrons, but more often it's the culture they live in. (ie Bob Dylan would have found it difficult to survive the way he did in feudal Europe, or Russia... ever.)

And Jesus was a local leader, so he was part of the government. Unfortunately, he was living under the subjugation of foreign occupiers.

Some of the first books I read were sci-fi, and Mars was peopled and had canals, and Venus was mysterious under its veil, full of life and jungles. Now we know the hard truth...Venus is a hot oven, and if there has been life on Mars, it will might be fossil bacteria.

This is way below my dreams and imagination as a child. But I really like knowing the truth, and I too am enthralled at what our rovers, probes, and space telescopes are revealing.

With all of the perils of space travel, I am amazed that these things work. I doubted the apollo landings on our moon until recently when there were high resolution photos of the landing sites.

Good way to spend money...way better than war.

But then Ayn Rand signed on to HUAC, proving herself to be just another pack-animal. In the 1950s, while everyone including The Nation Magazine and the ACLU were to varying degrees either caving or catering to the red scare paradigm, and the primary opposition resorting to the Fifth Amendment rather than taking the bull by the horns and demanding a real discussion, the only real free thinkers at the time were the Trotskyists (who took the First rather than the Fifth) and Catholic left, particularly Commonweal which was almost taken out of distribution for bucking the blowhards of the Church like Bishop Fulton Sheen.

Right now, in an era where Nixon and Reagan seem like flaming liberals compared to the Democratic Party, whether you agree with the pro-government perspective, I wouldn't agree that it represents the "collective thinking" of the moment, when both parties are talking deficit and advocating the pulling of money out of the economy when it desperately needs more.
