And protect them at the same time. And also your home and property, though I’m not sure how that works.
Seriously, it’s on his platform.
As president, Mitt will work to expand and enhance access and opportunities for Americans to hunt, shoot, and protect their families, homes, and property…
He must have had the Texas Legislature write up his platform. Remember when they accidentally outlawed marriage?
It also reminds me of an article I read in my youth in the Half Moon Bay Review. A man was driving on Pescadero Road and witnessed a man having difficulty shoving a woman into the trunk of a car so he got out to help…

“Hunt” and “shoot” are being used in their intransitive sense, so there is a scandalous misuse of language only in the minds of Romney’s opponents. “Protect” is always a transitive verb, and if it had been the first in the series of verbs there would have been a natural tendency to think of citizens shooting their families, but as it stands the sentence is innocent of encouraging lethal activities.

Erasmus,
The sentence my be innocent, but the candidate is not. Society has come a ways since Romney was in high school, but he still refers to the cruelty of bullies as “hijinks.”
In it’s attitude towards bullying, much of society has advanced. In other ways, probably thanks to the continued development of PR and advertising as a profession, it’s fallen backwards.
The other night, my husband and I were listening to a radio show talking about Presidents and civil rights advances. The show played quotes from Eisenhower and Truman. Truman, speaking to the nation about integrating the military, said something that caused both of us to laugh out loud, because of how unlikely it would be to hear it from a President’s mouth today: “We cannot wait any longer for the slowest states or the most backwards towns…”

What do you people think about “Fast and Furious”? Including the death of Border Patrol Officer Brian Terry, ICE Agent Jaime Zapata, and about 200 Mexican citizens ………….. so far!
This is the program where Obama’s Attorney General Eric Holder (US DOJ) allowed more than 2400 guns (assault wepons and 50 claliber rifles) to be transfered to Mexican Drug Cartels! Holder is now in danger of being held in contempt of congress (for lying to Congress) and now more than 140 Democratic Congressmen anre on boaud with the Republican Congress ?

Erasmus – I’m not suggesting that he’s actually advocating hunting and shooting one’s family. But grammatically, he has to pull protect out of the listing sequence. It should be “hunt and shoot, and protect…” Then you’ve adequately separated the concepts from the object phrase behind the third item in the list.
10:04 – it sounds like it was a bad call resulting in tragedy. Not the first, and won’t be the last. And if Holder perjured himself or otherwise obstructed the investigation willfully, then he should be held accountable for it.

Well, to clarify, I don’t know that he perjured himself. What we know is that his response as to the ignorance of the program is contradicted by communications he received which indicate the existence of the program. As for the policy itself, my understanding is that the policy of gunwalking started in 2006, three years before Holder was in office. And it appears that the real objection from right wingers is the push to require gun dealers near the border to report multiple sales of the rifles and tracing info. That’s apparently what’s politicized the whole thing.
It’s not going to get much political traction as a scandal. People, unfortunately, expect the department heads to protect the people under them who screw up, particularly in law enforcement. It’ll rile up some red state folk, but they won’t vote for Obama anyway.

“then he should be held accountable for it.”
Being held accountable for one’s bad actions should be a belief and practice held in sohum.
