INTERESTING PHOTO. Wondering what type of aircraft was used? Who the aircraft belonged to? How much did it cost? Is this what Baykeeper spends it’s money on? Senic flights !

don’t you think it’s a valid question? Baykeeper operates from contributions (and lawsuits?). a non profit ??
who was in the plane, or was it a dreaded helicopter?

It pretty cool that we can get pictures like this. Now the question is why is the water so turbid and where does the majority of the suspended sediment come from? Can it be controlled reasonably?
If you compare the pot industry to timber, there are a few parallels. For one, it took along time culturally and scientifically to understand the effects of logging. As awareness grew, the public’s opinion drove the policy to change. It still took 20 years for these policies to be refined and implemented, but they ultimately took hold. Pot is in the early stages of this process. The question in my mind is; will the industry exist long enough to become regulated (self or otherwise) to a point to where cumulative effects can be mitigated and avoided? Pot needs to take the same level of responsibility of their practices as modern timber does. If they dont step up soon, they will develop the same reputation as timber did – and trust me – that is a hard reputation to live down.
Where pot differs, I believe they have the opportunity to adapt much quicker that the timber industry. Just adopting BMPs for roads and stream crossings would reduce the sediment loading in the Matole by a very significant amount. And this practice would be relatively inexpensive (for the dope growers).

Oh, well, it was taken from the group’s private leer jet on their way to a luxurious vacation in the gated area of Guam. That is after stopping off at Herod’s for some diamond set jewelry, and hopefully just behind a large shipment of caviar fresh from Kamchatka.

The pot growers don’t care. They are just in it for money (no matter what some will say)

in a region with 4 mm/yr of uplift there is supposed to be sediment coming out of the mouth of the rivers. if it wasn’t, we would have Himalaya-sized mountains here within a million years, which just so happens to be about the amount of time the uplift has been at this rate. The rate drops to about 1 mm/yr as you move away from Kings Range.

I believe rain has muddied rivers since time immemorial. No mystery there.
