“Exchanges gunfire” ? Is that like exchanging recipes?
Not being critical of Eric, this has been used by others, just sounds stupid.

Where’s the proof that the shooter is the same person? Read the damned news reports. You won’t find any proof, just baseless accusations. Such Obama made this the law of the land, probable cause ended and this kind of police action now becomes the norm. Not something that bodes well for liberal lawyers.

Isn’t it wonderful living in an age where anyone with a real job who delivers information immediately becomes the suspect and the focus of the public’s attention replacing the real issue. Orwell would be so happy to know his description of the absurd over reactions, perpetuated by the loss of institutional credibility, have blossomed and borne fruit. I wonder if his estate gets residuals on these posts.

Joe,
“Probable cause” and “proof” are not the same thing. I believe that the “probable cause” in the Melo shooting was the eyewitness I.D. made by Melo’s companion, the survivor of that shooting.
Evidence aimed at “proving,” beyond a reasonable doubt, that Bassler was the person who killed Melo, would be presented at trial.
Of course if Bassler keeps shooting at those trying to apprehend him, he may end up getting killed, rather than captured.

Anonymous: I rarely respond to such critters, but this response proves, yet again, my point. WHERE’S THE DAMNED PROOF?
There is no eyewitness proof. All you got is the Sheriff making some unfounded claim. Neither is there any acceptable proof that “Bassler is shooting at those trying to apprehend him.” It’s the same bullshit they’ve been feeding the blood-thirsty public for weeks. For all anyone really knows is that this guy was setup. When “probable cause”is self-serving accusation that justifies killing someone, you’ve got plain old fashioned murder by death squads. Giving the police that kind of authority and power is insanity.

Aaron Bassler is dead. Redheaded Blackbelt has more information at Mr. Kirk’s story and site link above.

There’s another side of this story as evidenced by the rare photo seldom seen or published of Aaron Bassler today by Kym Kemp. A young man graduating, full of hope an dreams dressed in a tux, taken care of, someone’s loved son, smiling. A very different view than how we remember Aaron Bassler of late.
Her Redheaded Blackbelt site has the photo and article of Aaron in his happier and healthier days– and the failure of the mental health system and courts to intervene– in the article,
“Aaron Bassler– “A Mental Health Tragedy?”
Please give it a read. It’s a different side of a story that needs to be told.

Another thank you to Ronald Reagan, for closing state hospitals and sending the mentally ill out into communities without adequate support. Of course, it’s coincidence that Nancy owned several private facilities, which the state then paid to house a few cherrypicked former patients. Gotta love privatization, please enjoy your cost savings.
I’m all for integrating mentally ill people into the community, provided they have adequate treatment, services and supervision. And as long as there is a place to put them if they are or become dangerous, like AB did. But, we are going the other direction, faster and faster.
