A photo slide show of the aftermath of the (gasp!) 5.8 earthquake!
Addendum: Was the quake “man made?”
Second addendum: You’re all being very polite about my spelling of “devestation.” Devastate. Neither one looks right to me actually.
Third addendum: Was the quake “God made?”.
Pat Robertson thinks so:
“But it seems to me the Washington Monument is a symbol of America’s power, it has been the symbol of our great nation, we look at that monument and say this is one nation under God,” he continued.
“Now there’s a crack in it, there’s a crack in it and it’s closed up. Is that a sign from the Lord? Is that something that has significance or is it just result of an earthquake? You judge, but I just want to bring that to your attention,” he said.

If you think that man made earthquakes are a problem. Think about the world population of close to 7 Billion people taking a deep breath and exhaling CO2. We have to be throwing the CO2 ballance off.

Of course you’d also have to factor in the amount of CO2 not being exhaled by the wild animals we displace. And then add the amount of CO2 exhaled by the domesticated animals that we raise for food and as pets and those wild-animals whose numbers actually increase in human-modified environments (such as rats, mice, and some birds).
My impression is that all of that still pales in comparison to the amount of CO2 we add to the environment through fossil fuel use, and other greenhouse-gas-creating and CO2-absorption-reducing human activities resulting from trends like deforestation, industrial farming, and urbanization.
