You SoHum blogger Kym posted on this yesterday, or so. She does a good job, puts others to shame.

When I was staying at a motel in the East Bay, so I could attend a friend’s wedding in late May, I walked to a nearby gas station/convenience store to buy some beverages, and they had a USPS “neighborhood store” inside… selling stamps, packaging, etc. at the same price as the post office. I smelled a rat, then. I realized USPS was about to “down-size” and close a bunch of post offices, and farm out the “service” to gas stations, who years ago became “convenience stores” with clerks who no longer pump gas or check your oil… they just sell you Coke, beef jerky, and lottery cards… and now, postage stamps.
Would you like fries with those stamps? Because you sure won’t get any free drinking glasses, or Green Stamps. See the history of the post office here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Postal_Service and read about how The Postal Reorganization Act of 1970 abolished the United States Post Office Department, a part of the cabinet, and created the United States Postal Service, (a corporation-like independent agency with an official monopoly on the delivery of mail in the United States) which was signed by President Richard Nixon on August 12, 1970, here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postal_Reorganization_Act
Ben Franklin was our first postmaster. I think it should return to being a government entity, and subsidized if necessary. If it was good enough for Ben, it’s good enough for me!
“On July 26, 1775, Franklin was appointed Postmaster General, the first appointed under the Continental Congress. It established a postal system that became the United States Post Office, a system that is still in use today.”
Yes, until it was “outsourced” to corporate holdings. *sigh*.

Nothing fries a New-American-Centurion’s bacon like Americans getting any kind of benefit from their government.

OH, I sure hate to lose a box # I’ve had since 1974. And go thru those 2 stop lights! On the other hand maybe I should get a box now and avoid the rush.

Nothing is definite just yet, and I doubt that all on the list will be nixed.
