Two intelligent people discussing their profession — the danger of narcissism is unavoidable. 49 minutes of it? Sorry, my admiration and patience have limits. Maddow said “The rally was awesome.” I hope the entirety of the interview was also.

It’s about more than their professions, which by the way are different and that’s a small part of the discussion itself.
There were a couple of key moments. Stewart criticized Maddow for saying that Bush is “technically” a war criminal, suggesting that the use of the same term that you would use to describe Pol Pot is “a discussion stopper.” The discussion moves into very interesting territory.
He also criticizes her for covering the crazy statements made by the tea party more than those made by Code Pink. She responds by saying that Code Pink is about 12 women strong, while half of Indiana supports the tea party, and so her coverage is “proportionate” to the phenomenon. She also notes that the crazy statements from the right come from figures in authority, either in earnest or pandering, while the crazy statements from the left find themselves coming from the mouths of practically nobody actually in office. He then argues it’s all about the tone, but he never really does address whether it is appropriate to cover the issues proportionately, or just 50-50 as the media did during the Kerry race when lies about his military record were being compared to his choices of economic statistics for arguments.

Well thanks a lot — now I’ll have to find 49 free minutes.

I liked Stewart’s analogy about how the red/blue fight of 24 news is a circus mirror’s reflection of the real battle… which he more or less defines as corruption.

They’re both owned and operated by the right wing conservative media corps.
