Plain Jane
Did Reagan put Carter’s solar panels in storage or in the landfill?

Plain Jane, they went to an Eastern college.
If this is off-subject, my apologies. This popped up on my board today and I immediately thought of you.
Eric, what your votes for “hope” and “change” got you – liars and betrayers. Eat your heart out: Truth about the public option momentarily emerges, quickly scampers back into hiding. Obama is SO pro conservative that the Tea Party – Republican BS about him is pure nonsense.

Thanks Joe. Issues like the public option always remind me of a “joke” I heard years ago.
When the president elect makes his first visit to the White House he is shown video of the JFK assassination which has never been seen publicly from a different perspective than the Zapruder film and told that’s what happens to presidents who try to upset the corporatocracy.

It was patently obvious that it wasn’t on the table from the beginning, and only the netroots pressure even kept them pretending. I think they calculated that they couldn’t get it so didn’t want to expend political capital on a lost cause, but that was something worth fighting for.
On PJ’s question, there is a video the “previous post” link which explains what happened to the old panels.

“Patently obvious”? That’s not what came from Obama’s mouth. That was one of the points Greenwald was making. “Pretending” – That’s what everyone voted for? A pretender? My point. Thanks.
Lost cause at 50 Senate votes? Who you trying to jerk around? Maybe you should go back and read Greenwald’s article again, that is if you did. I’d like to just how much political capital he has right now. The truth is a bitter pill. What’s on record speaks for itself. Be assured, Eric it’s only going to get worse, the truth about Obama and the looting of America, that is. Substance matters!

They needed 60 votes and Lieberman and Nelson apparently told them straight out that it would be filibustered.
Unfortunately, unlike the Republican Party, there are no consequences for bucking the party line – even on such a crucial issue.
But Obama has done pretty well to keep us out of a Depression and health care reform has its foot in the door. At my age I’ve come to realize that progress is extremely slow.

Eric, they passed the Health Care bill on 50 votes. Not 60. Greenwald is correct. They didn’t need 60 to get the public option passed. It was an Obama scam all the way. It seems there are no consequences for anyone bucking the party line. I’ve got three good links on this issue, “Why only looking forward is suicide” on my The Joe Blow Report 2. As a lawyer, something you probably already know about.
By the way, congratulations on your new lawyer upgrade. I didn’t see anything on your list of expertises regarding Workers’ Compensation.

The public option, if separated, may have been passable with 50 votes if it could be classified as a budget issue, but the parliamentarians said it was a stretch. Anything outside of the budget realm was subject to standard process, and therefor vulnerable to filibuster.
The health care bill passed because they were allowed to close debate, which requires 60 votes. Several democrats then voted against it. But they needed the cloture vote.
If the Democratic majority is preserved and the economy continues to improve over the next couple of years, we will probably have a public option in place by the time the final provisions kick in, especially if Lieberman loses in 2012.

Oh, and thank you for the congrats. I don’t do WC anymore. It’s become much more complicated and most cases are not profitable under the revisions over the past few years, especially now that compensation is apportioned for pre-existing conditions. It’s no longer a casual process, and those who do WC pretty much specialize in it. And even they don’t take every case anymore, which leaves many people at the mercy of the insurance industry. But that’s “reform” which saves the insurers money, and in theory the employers.

Being apolitical, I’ve always been amused when workmates told me they were going to or did vote Republican then got told by the doctor and the Workers’ Comp. so-called Appeals Board Judge they were lying about their injuries when hurt on the job and then denied them their legal and rightful benefits. What really hurt was when their lawyer sided against them too. The insurance companies own WC lawyers, so that tells me something about you – well, kind of anyway.
My problem with being told how it “could” be is that requires me to accept someone’s worthless opinion, even Barack Obama. Put the matter on record, make each representative vote, then there’s no doubt. Otherwise, the matter shakes out just exactly like it was supposed to. It’s called, “Do one thing, say another. Deny what you did and lie about what you said.”
