Janelle Egger was part of the heart and soul of the Clif Clendenen campaign, spending many dedicated hours at Cliff HQ. She has been literally fighting City Hall and now she wants to change it from the inside.
I am running for Fortuna City Council. For two years I have attempted to understand why we would spend money building a water tank when we have a reservoir with more than enough storage. I am now convinced we need to look seriously at using Vancil reservoir. I believe that it will serve us more than adequately and at a price we can afford.
I produced a documentary to share the information I gathered on this issue. It compares the reasons given for building a new tank with the facts I found in the information. Boondoggle in thrifty Fortuna? is airing on channel 12. To find out when, or to view online, please go to FortunaCitizen.com.
I am also very concerned that in my search for information on this issue City Hall was the most difficult source. This should not be the case, sometimes city records are the only source of information.
I was forced to file a lawsuit to obtain City records. This cost us money and resources which ought to have been spent on real community discussion about the need for this tank. But even after winning the lawsuit I was denied information. I was told there were no records until I gave them proof there were. In fact, right now the City Manager denies that they have records on the costs for a new tank. I am not anti-government, but I believe that openness and accountability are essential for good government. The best way to ensure this is to run for City Council and take what I have learned into City Hall.
I am a newcomer to Fortuna, at least when compared to those whose roots go back to the 1860’s or to the time when people first walked in this beautiful valley. For 25 years I have happily tended to my children, home, land, continued my education and given in small ways to my community.
I have served on several governing boards, including political, non-profit, and for-profit cooperative organizations. Though I have never served as an elected official, I will serve on the City Council as I served on these boards. I will speak up for what I believe is right, listen to others and look for solutions.
Fortuna is a unique community. As we struggle to maintain our small town in this rapidly changing world we must find solutions for the problems this brings. Careful balances have to be struck. This City Council member will understand that City government benefits from the informed input of the growing diversity of this great town. Whatever the differences of opinions, everyone who lives here has a common appreciation of the City’s beauty and small town strengths. Help me to help City government to find and strike the necessary balance.
I have previously posted about her, and here is the NCJ article.
You can reach her campaign at: fortuna.sunshine@yahoo.com
Addendum: Campaign contributions can be sent to 1020 Angel Hts. Fortuna 95540. Checks should be made out to 2010 Sunshine Committee – Egger for Council.
It took a day before the Republican NKVD pummeled rogue Karl Rove into submission, but he has confessed and found redemption.
Addendum: There’s so much national news, I guess I’ll dedicate this thread to it. Add this to the “they say the darndest things file:” Mitch McConnel identifies those earning more than a quarter of a million per year the “hardest hit by the recession.“ Seriously.
….
This Republican candidate has apparently been caught plagiarizing Obama.
….
Jon Stewart warns the Democrats that they can still f##& up Delaware. John Oliver actually:
OLIVER: It’s a good point, but please, gentlemen, I appreciate your speculation, but you’re forgetting that the Democrats are a dynamic, innovative party, constantly thinking of new ways to f*ck up a sure thing.
At this point the premier Republican pollster has Coons ahead in that race by 11.
….
Poverty is up, but jobless claims are down.
….
Fox News has sued Carnahan over an ad which they say used a Fox interview of her opponent to imply that they had endorsed her. Unfortunately, Fox demanded that Youtube remove a video of the commercial, so we can’t judge for ourselves. A copy of the complaint can be read through the link.
….
Boxer takes off the gloves. And this is one negative ad which may draw blood.
Good slogan: “I want to see the words ‘made in America’ again.”
….
On that Fox News lawsuit, Kos has the text of the interview on the ad.
….
Quote from Christine O’Donnel on the O’Reilly Factor three years ago on her opposition to genetic experimentation.
“American scientific companies are cross-breeding humans and animals and coming up with mice with fully functioning human brains.”
….
Third addendum: Looks like it was a pretty friendly debate in Delaware tonight. And that probably benefits Coons although it also legitimizes O’Donnell for future runs. She can get past the masturbation issue. But the mice with brains thing is probably going to be good for another couple of news cycles. If O’Donnell doesn’t go negative now, being double digits behind, that’s to her credit, and demise this time around.
