Big night for the Tea Party in Delaware and probably New Hampshire.
Let’s see how Christine O’Donnell’s anti-masturbation platform plays in the general.
Addendum: Rachel Maddow dug up an old MTV video (1996) of O’Donnell’s crusade against masturbation.
Second addendum: Fox News reports that the Republican mainstream leadership is writing off Delaware.
Third addendum: Some news on the Democratic side in NH where a progressive Democrat just took out a Blue Dog in the House race.
At this point the NH Republican Senate primary is unclear, but the Tea Partier in NY earned the position to get clobbered by Cuomo in November.
Fourth addendum: Rove tells a disappointed Hannity that he doesn’t think the Republicans can take the Senate in November, and basically calls O’Donnell a nut.
O’Donnell did raise a philosophical question back in 96 – can one masturbate without lust?
Fifth addendum: It looks like the mainstream Republican Senate candidate will pull it out.
Back in Delaware, losing candidate Rep. Mike Castle has said he won’t endorse O’Donnell for November. In other words, as one Kos poster says:
Castle is saying that O’Donnell can go f#*& herself… which we know that she won’t do.
Sixth addendum: Wooowie! Right wingers are turning on Rove! Thing is, Krauthammer said what Rove said even before the election, and slammed Palin for endorsing O’Donnell.
This is not the time Republicans wanted a civil war. They should have hashed this out months ago.
Meanwhile, the Democrat Coons has a huge lead over O’Donnell in the latest poll. Castle would have been leading Coons. The takeover of the Senate seems much less likely, and people like Rove are pissed.
Meanwhile more old vids and statements of O’Donnell are popping out of the woodwork, including this one in which she said that AIDS research and prevention gets too much money and condoms don’t protect against the disease.
Seventh Addendum: The NRSC is reversing itself. They’ll send 42 grand to O’Donnell.
O’Donnell on Bill Maher’s show:
O’DONNELL: A lie, whether it be a lie or an exaggeration, is disrespect to whoever you’re exaggerating or lying to, because it’s not respecting reality.
MAHER: Quite the opposite, it can be respect.
IZZARD: What if someone comes to you in the middle of the Second World War and says, ‘do you have any Jewish people in your house?’ and you do have them. That would be a lie. That would be disrespectful to Hitler.
O’DONNELL: I believe if I were in that situation, God would provide a way to do the right thing righteously. I believe that!
MAHER: God is not there. Hitler’s there and you’re there.
O’DONNELL: You never have to practice deception. God always provides a way out.
Let’s do some straw polls. We’ll start with the hottest local race at the moment.
Of course many of you don’t live in the 4th District, so the poll isn’t really worth a whole lot. But maybe it’ll reveal something. Probably not.
Addendum: Actually, upon reflection of the results of the poll so far, I’m concluding that it does show something. It may be of limited relevance to the 4th District race itself, but given that probably more than half of my readers are from Sohum, the poll, if statistically reflective, may indicate that Sohum progressives are loyal to progressives regardless of the GPU issue. I’ve said a little bit more in the thread.
TPM is reporting that “reports are coming in” that Obama is appointing Elizabeth Warren to direct the Consumer Protection Bureau.
More as it develops.
Addendum: False alarm. It sounded too good to be true.
Second Addendum: Kos on the “on again off again” Warren drama.
