The Eureka Times Standard is heralding the news as good, because it’s keeping people working. But as our mills have all closed and housing is in deep trouble here in the US, we can begin our transformation to an extraction resource based economy sans finished goods. Basically, we’re loading up raw logs to accommodate China’s economic expansion.
Of course I recently had chance to discuss the economy with a conservative friend of mine who assures me that the wealthy of the country, who produce everything, are “on strike,” holding back trillions of dollars from the economy in order to say “f—- you” to Obama in 2012. While I think my friend is still a bit overly influenced by his college reading of Atlas Shrugged, I have to wonder about the statement. A Marxist professor in my own college experience once told me that in the U.S., the only class-consciousness can be found in the upper classes, who vote in blocks like clockwork with both ballots and money. Will no folk singer write songs about their solidarity struggle? The Brooks Brothers Revolution lives!
