Semi-serious injuries this time.
Meth, booze, mental illness, or just the usual grandiose sense of entitlement and self-importance? I don’t really know how I’m going to react if my kids are subjected to it while trying to enjoy the beach. Hopefully with grace and restraint. Again, why do they insist on drug deals and other cro-mag activities at one of the few places kids access around here?
Here’s the last cro-mag incident I posted on.
I don’t know. If it was in a remote area of the woods somewhere, fine, beat on each other or whatever – I wouldn’t care so much. I guess I’m a little more touchy about these things since I’ve become responsible for kids.

“Chronological adults” cracked me up, in a “gallows humor” kind of way.
I’m totally with you on this Eric. Especially with regard to the previous lets-meet-at-Redway-beach-and-make-a-deal case, which was clearly premeditated on both ends. With all the spaces in this county, WHY the hell would anyone pick Redway beach, or any park where kids and families are present, to make their sale or attempt their rip-off? It’s truly asinine all the way around.
I feel more or less the same way about the recent fight, though I have to admit that fights kind of “break out” sometimes and are not as likely to be premeditated in terms of where they take place. Still, I wish these folks had the decency to take their quarrel elsewhere (though I suppose if they had that level of maturity and consideration, they probably wouldn’t be hitting each other over the head with bottles in the first place).
I would note (not that its going to make any of us feel much better) that this sort of thing does happen in public parks, public spaces, playgrounds, beaches, and so on all across the country, and is certainly not limited to homeless folks or the mentally ill. Often its college students on a bender, or beer-buddies who have a falling out, or meth-heads at 3:00 am, or people who get excited all out of proportion while arguing about sports, or whatever. I wish I had a solution.

By the way, did you ever hear anything else about that wrong-way 101 driver? Were they caught? Is there some kind of explanation for how they ended up going the wrong way on 101? Inquiring minds want to know!

Heard nothing about it. I was going to call the CHP today, but I got real busy before I had to leave for a court appearance in Ukiah. Maybe Monday.

If you do get a chance to find out what that was all about, I’m sure many of us who follow this blog would be interested.
I’m kinda surprised that you didn’t get a follow-up call and/or visit from CHP asking you to back up the story of the person in the vehicle behind you who was forced off the road by the wrong-way jackass. Maybe their account wasn’t in question, so your statement simply wasn’t considered necessary. Or maybe they just never caught the wrong-way jackass. I sure hope its the former.

By the way, with respect to how to react to a violent incident taking place at Redway Beach, or wherever you might be, I don’t think you have much choice other than to get your kids out of harm’s way, call the cops, and do your best to keep your cool and perhaps use it as a “teaching moment” for your kids about how some people misbehave in dangerous ways and that’s what we have cops for.
I mean what else are you going to do? Get all pumped up and go over and kick their asses yourself? That would be kind of a mixed message for the kids, no? Its a sad situation, but I can’t see how else anyone could be expected to handle it.

I would ask all you soft hearted folks who live in the hills and give pot and money to these beggars to do those of us who live or work in town a break and take some of these bums home with you.

This is the lifestyle you have been defending. Enjoy it.

I’m not sure to which “lifestyle” you are referring nor what any lifestyle has to do with the incident.

I’m not even sure who the “you” is that is supposedly defending the unspecified lifestyle. Just a general mindless lashing out, I guess…
