It’s a national event to oppose offshore oil drilling. There’s a map of all the planned events through the link, but Heraldo has already looked up three events in Humboldt County, including one near Garberville (to protest drilling in the river I guess).
- Westhaven at Moonstone Beach.
- Arcata at Mad River County Park.
- Garberville at Southern Humboldt Community Park-Tooby Memorial Park.
They want you to show up at 11:00 to be ready to hold hands at noon.
Please post reports. I’ll be out of town.
Here’s a clip from a February event in Florida, before the gusher.

Well, I suppose everyone could get in their cars and drive a half hour or more to get to the ocean, burning more damn oil.
You demand to ban bicycles and then mock people for not driving. Think about what you’re saying. You should be ashamed of that snark.

You should be ashamed of that snark.
Oh, get over it.

Why don’t you?

Thanks for posting, Eric! I think we’ll have a great turnout. And yes, I wish the public transit was more conducive than driving or that more people would ride their bikes, but we will need to demand more from our legislators to make that happen. This could be a powerful first step.

Hey Jennifer! You going to Moonstone?

Businessman
If we shut down offshore drilling here we simply hand over more dollars to despots in Iran, Venezuela and Saudi Arabia.

Businessman, what good are dollars when there are no fish to buy, no boats to rent, no gulf beach vacations, no way to clean up a dead sea and no technology to remedy problems associated with a blow out?
What is the price for an entire eco-system?
How many dollars are multigenerational livelihoods worth?
Yes we will pay someone else to destroy the world but not Saudi Arabia, Iran or Venezuela so much, we will hand over more dollars to Canada. That’s where most of our imported oil comes from.
We get hijackers and Fox news from Saudi Arabia.
Venezuela provides cheap heating oil for our poor during the winter months in many parts of this country and Iran? They gave us Ronald Regan.
Rant aside, Erik wanted us to keep him posted. There are some pictures from Moonstone Beach today at my blog.

We could take many more dollars out of the pockets of despots with mandatory fuel efficiency standards.

Eric,
How did “Hands across the River Bar” end up. The more I thought about that, the people coming down to the Park should have also been asking for “No more instream gravel extraction or surface mining”. After all, that is what’s right across the sand and river from Tooby Park, Right Eric.
And who owns that property and who leases that property to Randall and for how many more decades? All of this happening in broad day light, right in the Parks back yard.
Are you an environmentalist, Eric? I mean to say, do you advocate for the preservation, restoration, or enhancement of the natural environment?

In the face of the apocalypse, with nuclear war, pestilence, plague, and death, Ed will still be whining about having to hear music and a small time gravel pit. It’s all he can think about.

I know first hand what you mean and where you are coming from, It seems “I” only want to protect the environment in “MY” neighborhood, in “MY” back yard, without any thought of the rights of other people or in this case a “nonprofit”? Who, by the way does post this on their web site:
http://www.sohumpark.org/pdfs/South%20Fork%20Eel%20River%20Parkway.pdf
“I” never think of people and what humans bring to the table (or the river) only the dam wildlife habitat and their dam Eco-system, right?
How dare “I” pick on people in the SoHum area, who are only doing the best they can, trying to do what they believe is the right thing and make alittle money in the process, right Eric? I mean why not use the earth and all of her resources until they are all gone. God did made this earth so the white man could claim it and use it all, right Eric? We will all be long gone before that all happens, right? Our kids can deal will it?
Next thing to will know, the Park Board will be parking cars, RV’s and camping on the river bar for events, just like at Cooks Valley. But hey, its better for the human environment to keep making buckets of money, with out any thought of anything but “sacrafice the few for the many”, right?
So Anonymous 7:26 am, What would you do, speaking as Anonymous, nothing? Just because this is not happening in you back yard, don’t mean it will not affect you! It effects all living species, seen by man or not!
