4th Annual Walk in the Park
Tooby Memorial Park
Check-in at 10 am, May 22
The Southern Humboldt Community Park is excited to announce that on Saturday May 22nd we will host the Fourth Annual Walk in the Park & Family Fun Day. The Walk in the Park is a joint fundraiser for Southern Humboldt Schools, Tooby Memorial Park Playground and education programs at Southern Humboldt Community Park.
The event will be held at Tooby Memorial Park, Sprowel Creek Road, Garberville. Check-in begins at 10 AM. The Walk, 2&1/4 mile of easy trail walking through the beautiful Community Park, begins at 11. Throughout the day there will be free activities and entertainment for the kids and informational booths on healthy living, plus the Park’s farm will have organic produce for sale. Food booths will be provided by the schools.
In the afternoon local experts will lead interpretive walks to the community farm, about native plants in the park, and the scat & tracks found in the park. Come on out and discover the beauty and diversity of our Community Park while supporting our children.
Registration for the event is a sliding scale of $10-25. Every early registrant will receive a Walk in the Park t-shirt and on-site registrants will receive one as long as they last. Registration money will go toward improvements and maintenance of Tooby Park Playground. Local schools are earning money for school programs through a pledge drive for The Walk and their food booths.
To register download the Walk in the Park Registration Form.

read the 3rd paragraph over and over and over, and how does that fit with trying to turn the community park into a loud and obnoxious concert tourism/camping loud obnoxious concert venue

Noticed you added this meeting location and time to this thread post above, but no date when you posted it, so we don’t know when tomorrow is, do you have a date or did we miss the meeting?

The meeting was last night. It’s been up on the website for six weeks now.

We had intended to post a notice in the newspapers, but all of the Board is pretty maxed out right now. We’ll try to provide better notice for the August meeting.
We did have about half a dozen people show. Mostly it was about the Walk in the Park and some farm business.

Thanks Eric,
And now for something completely different. Why is it nobody wants to talk about the Garberville Sanitation Disticts under taking of an oversized 8″ water line down to Kimtu and the new water treatment plant becoming the new neighbor of the Communty Park? On what is now called “River Ranch Homes” 81 acres, that use to belong to this Community Park, why is that Eric?

Eric,
Is the rumor true, about a SHCP having a Board meeting today, tonight or any time soon? Like there was on June 1st?
There was nothing on the Park web site about the meeting on June 1st 2010 with Supervisor Clendenen, Supervisor Neely, Michael Richardson and the River Parkways Grant staff(s). Only August 18, 2010 at the Barn.
Could you please let us know?

Yes, the question of the relationship between the Garberville Sanitary District, the Community Park, Steve Dazey’s newly acquired area of the park, and River Ranch Homes is certainly a mystery of development potential. Did the GSD help the Park Board apply for their own water system or is the Park now “partnered” with the GSD in siphoning more water out of the river for housing developments and whatever else the Park Board and private developers might have in mind?
