On financial reform, now the Republicans want to talk.
Maybe it had something to do with the Administration’s presser today in which they basically said that they feel “liberated” by the GOP tactics. I guess they’re going to nominate a liberal candidate to replace Stephens on the basis that the Republicans are going to oppose the nominee in any case. 30 years later, it sinks in to a prominent Democrat.
….
Are the Democrats getting a little too cocky? Apparently they’re taking up immigration reform in May.
….
In an unintended moment of levity, the likely Republican opponent of Harry Reid wants to return to a system in which doctors are paid with chickens. I shouldn’t laugh. I was literally given a chicken in return for legal advice some years back. And no, I didn’t report it as income. If I’m hauled away in cuffs tomorrow, you’ll know why.
….
Addendum: If you’ve been paying attention you know that moderate Republican Florida Senator candidate Charlie Crist fell behind his “tea party” opponent Marco Rubio in the polls for the Republican primary, so now Crist is pulling a reverse Lieberman. Republicans aren’t happy with him. In fact, they’re hoping to toss him into the pit of darkness where there shall be a weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Meanwhile, Rubio is facing an FBI investigation.
….
Second addendum: Bring a chicken to the doctor!

We were not worse off back in the days of fee-for-service. The insurance-based system adds over 30 percent in administrative fees and doesn’t control costs.
What this dim-witted cow, and the teabagger-types don’t/won’t understand, is that the healthcare bill recently pushed through by Democrats was written largely by the Heritage Foundation, a right-wing “think-tank” and was signed into law by Mitt Romney in 2006 in Massachusetts (which now enjoys the most expensive health insurance in the world).
The “mandate model” (forcing the uninsured to buy a policy) was first proposed by Richard Nixon in 1972.

Oh, the whole HCR is almost entirely from center-right Republican ideology. The only liberalism in the bill are the prohibitions against pre-existing condition exclusion, ban on lifetime limits, and the subsidization. The whole concept of the exchange was developed by moderate conservatives who knew that someday the differences between Europe and the US would force us to move forward. What took over the party was a hard right opposition to the whole philosophy that federal government should even be involved in the situation, and it put the elected Republicans in a tough space. I’m getting the feeling that the few remaining moderate Republicans are reaching their threshold.

o fine…whilst the proles are getting paid chickenfeed, the elite are getting paid in whole chickens!
typical class stratification.
hard to know which chicken post to post this on, but if you want to save your hair and hormones…
“Bolivian President Evo Morales said Tuesday that men should stay away from chicken if they want to maintain their hair and virility.
Morales told an environmental conference that chicken producers inject the birds with female hormones “and because of that, men who consume them have problems being men.” He also suggested eating too much chicken for too long could make men go bald.
Morales’ warning may be out of date: Chicken producers in Europe, the United States and many other countries say they abandoned the use of hormones in poultry several decades ago and many if not most Western nations ban them outright.”
ps. what happened to the chicken?

I got a kitten once. Named it “Firstfee” for a while, but that didn’t come trippingly off the tongue so renamed him Othree (3rd orange cat we had at that time). He failed to come home a couple of weeks ago and haven’t seen him since, but had him about 10 years. How long did your chicken last.

President Barack Obama suggested Wednesday that a new value-added tax on Americans is still on the table, seeming to show more openness to the idea than his aides have expressed in recent days.
Before deciding what revenue options are best for dealing with the deficit and the economy, Obama said in an interview with CNBC, “I want to get a better picture of what our options are.”
So are we supposed to thank this lying piece of crap NOW for our taxes or waiting until he screws us even worse with this.

Ed – I came home to find it in my refrigerator. Once roasted, the kids had it consumed within a day.

I get eggs, yard work, painting, cleaning, fish, abalone, crab, etc. in barter for medical services. Also have gotten firewood, woodworking, and car repair. Much easier and cleaner to deal with people than insurance garbage.
I except most insurances, don’t like it. The new health care bill is no good for anyone. It will solve none of the real problems and add expense. Just watch.

Just an aside lowblow, if you take abolone captured on a recreational basis as payment in any sort of commercial transaction, you and patient could be in violation of felony laws besides the tax reporting requirements. Careful with that!
