As I mentioned in an earlier post I was offline last week because my laptop crashed. There’s actually more to the story. If you don’t like rants, skip the post.
About a year ago my parents purchased a laptop from the Best Buy in Santa Rosa, and gave it to me for my birthday. It’s one of those big red ones, kind of big for a laptop, but a good size. It was a nice thought, but it’s spent a good portion of the year in repair in one form or another.
The first issue came up within weeks of my first use. Basically I started having problems turning it on without the blue screen of death coming up. A box would come up saying that there was some problem and that it was looking for some fix, and after two or three tries I would get through. Before I could get it in to be looked at, it no longer opened at all. I contacted Best Buy who informed me that there was no warranty for the software, so rather than arguing I brought it in to Garth in Garberville and he fixed it. The geeks over there gave me some sort of explanation I didn’t understand, but it sounded good and it worked for awhile. I think they basically reloaded the software after wiping it clean. Fine. It happens. I hoped it was the end of the story.
More under the fold.
