In an amusing moment of political judo, a silly amendment introduced by Republicans to make some sort of point backfired when Democrats called their bluff. Republican Senators Tom Coburn and David Vitter introduced an amendment which would force everyone on Congress to join any public option passed. Immediately Sen. Sherod Brown tried to co-sponsor, but the authors wouldn’t answer his calls. So today Brown called for unanimous consent to allow him to be named as a co-sponsor. No objections. He’s named on the amendment.
Then Al Franken jumped in.
And then Christopher Dodd and Barbara Mikulski.
For whatever reason, Republicans are usually much better at politics than the Democrats. I’m an amateur and I would have seen this coming. I’m amazed that Coburn and Vitter didn’t.

“Everything Southern Humboldt and more” This must be the “more”.
More like “Everything left of the left and anti American in general”.

That’s because Coburn and Vitter aren’t politicians they’re circus clowns.

Elected federal officials are hardly “the left of the left.” By the electoral process they have majority appeal, which tends to make them more or less centrist with a left-wing or right-wing bent. I can’t think of a single Senator or Rep that is calling for the abolition of Capitalism, for instance.
As for as Anti-American, since when do you get to define what is “American?”

I don’t know about an abolition of capitalism, but Bernie Sanders is in fact a socialist, of the Bernsteinian variety.

Well, cool! I didn’t know that!
Still, he’s from Vermont, and everyone knows that Vermont is not a real state, it’s a kind of fantasy state. =)
Seriously, though, “Howard Dean has stated that ‘Bernie Sanders votes with the Democrats 98 percent of the time,'” rather says that Bernie Sanders is not “the left of the left.” Still pretty brave of him to call himself a “democratic socialist.”
