Bah Sesame Street.
When Matt Robinson played Gordon it was alright I guess. Much love to Matt Robinson and not just because he helped create the exquisitely fine Holly Robinson. But I digress.
What’s up with Mr. Snuffleuffagus? What is he, Big Bird’s secret black friend? He is supposed to be some kind of jazz musician or something? Why is he always hiding? Who the hell can’t see a big black elephant? I heard that people see him now… so, what’s up with that? They finally smell his reefer from him and Fozzy Bear?
Mr. Hooper slanging little kids candy. What about that? You mean heroin? Little kids be all up in his store 24/7. He got some secrets.
Why are all the oddball puppets dark skinned? Grover is obviously some kind of flaming queer black dude. Cookie monster is your stereotypical neighborhood basehead. Snuffleuffagus has to hide from the fuzz. Oscar the grouch lives in the trash… and he’s mad all the time? Mad at The Man or what?
Why are all the featured nice characters light skinned? Why can’t Big Bird be black, why does he gotta be lookin like Larry Bird? What’s up with that new(ish) character Elmo, why is he light skinned and all nicey-nice? Shoulda made him gay too. They should have some oddball light skinned characters damn it.
The Muppets suck too.

Heard on NPR this morning that Oscar started out as orange, and the Cookie Monster originally had teeth.

Every basehead has teeth at first.

Sesame Street was huge. There had been nothing like it on T.V.. I’m a relic but before the Street it was Romper Room and Captain Kangaroo. Later The Electric Company picked up the baton. Counting and the alphabet took on a whole new meaning. I think Bill Cosby’s best work was done on the Electric Company.

Was he on electric company? I only remember Morgan Freeman, Rita Moreno, and a couple of unknowns.
My favorite Bill Cosby stuff was on Fat Albert.
