In my previous post about Medea Benjamin’s change of emphasis on Afghanistan, it was suggested here and elsewhere that the Christian Science Monitor had misrepresented her words, and that her stance, as well as that of Code Pink’s, remains in favor of immediate withdrawal.
Add The SF Chronicle to the defamation. According to comments attributed to her, she doesn’t want more troops sent, and she wants an immediate “commitment to come home.” But she acknowledges that we need “an exit strategy” must have “several components to it.”
And they want women involved in the peace talks. I’m not clear if they would make that a condition of troop withdrawal.

So, is she actually *not* for an exit strategy and indeed actually for a collossal, pell-mell retreat and abandonment of all commitments to security in the region (and world) and just ship everyone home to Fortress America as fast as planes will fly?? Or is she indeed for some kind of peace talks with the Taliban and/or Al-Quaeda and a negotiated withdrwl? And as for women involved, isn’t the friggin’ Secretary of State a woman? I’m for more women involved, too, as a matter of fact; how about Afghan women, the ones that haven’t been stoned to death, of course. Let’s include the beaten, maimed, and blinded by acid in the discussions with the Taliban. And I’m sure, whatever we all peacefully agree to with them at the table they will peacefully follow after we’ve left their sad country. Yep, uh huh. If the big, mean, macho US would just leave them alone, after telling them to be nice after we leave, the Taliban will just concentrate on a happy, fruitful, peaceful society in their post-war utopia. Yep, you betcha.

I don’t think she knows yet. Nuance is kind of new to her.
