Apparently an argument over a seat. I’m all for public transit, but it has to work better than this. The behavior of the women is alarming, but the apparent indifference of the driver is incredible. He or she should be fired if it wasn’t called in. Seriously.
Addendum: Thanks to James for sending me this link to a study which indicates that 98 percent of the population supports public transportation – for everybody else.

San Francisco is such an enlightened city. Gavin Newsom would be proud.

Well, we should be thankful that our transit systems are much better run, and the folks who ride them are much more considerate. Never saw anything close to that on our buses, and you can be sure that the bus would have stopped and both of them ejected, just for the behavior before the first punch was thrown.

“the driver is incredible. He or she should be fired”
In an Ideal world that would work Eric, but welcome to reality. The Muni is just happy to be able to get drivers that can get the bus down the street without running over anybody. Drivers don’t sign-on to control the Muni Luni bin.

All I expect is a call-in. I don’t expect the driver to get into the middle of it.

I see worse fights in places like Rio Dell and Fortuna all the time over less than a bus seat.

I can’t recall the last fight I’ve seen around Eureka but, admittedly, I don’t get out much.

Fred- I am surprised at such a stupid comment from you.
As if this could not happen anywhere. Does happen everywhere!
Do you really believe an
entire city/ state/ area is all ‘left’ or all ‘right’?
Are you turning into just another Fox ‘news’/ Glenn Beck sheep? Ready to hate anyone and everyone even remotely associated with liberalism?
You sound like the idiots posting on T-S now.

Eric, how do you know that the driver did not “call it in”? You think that maybe, just maybe,SFPD has better things to do than deal with these two dumbshits.

I don’t know, but that’s how the youtuber reports it. I give him the benefit of the doubt that he checked into it. He’s also looking right at the driver the whole time.

Well, I can tell you that there are plenty of similar to worse incidents in Humboldt County. I’ve represented some of the people involved in them. At least neither of these women are tweakers.

How can the “youtuber” be “looking at the driver the whole time” when he/she is recording the fight?

Eric Kirk
Watch the video. He’s sitting in the opposite direction and holding the phone up to record what’s going on behind him. Every once in a while he moves the phone to see his somewhat smug face with a sardonic comment in a little dialogue box.

No. Nobody up here starts fights. Only those scary brown people in the cities would do a thing like that.
Arrogant much?

Why is it the drivers responsibility to manage those two people?? Why aren’t they responsible for themselves? Eric, for you too say the driver should be fired because two women can’t behave themselves on a public bus is insane. I’ll add that the black woman started the fight and the asian woman had every right to defend herself. I’m intrigued that no one has played the race card yet, well since they’re both minorities you really can’t. However, I will say that the vast majority of blacks who ride public transit tend to be uneducated racists who are either incapable or unwilling to control their own behavior.

Your story is changing Eric. First it’s “looking at the driver the whole time” to “every once in while”…..good work counselor…….

No Brian. Every once in a while he moves the phone. His face is facing forward – he doesn’t look directly at the women. Watch the video.

Eric, I watched the video, your statments do not add up. sorry dude…

Well, I don’t know what to tell you. Do you think the bearded guy is another person? The dialogue boxes say otherwise.
In any case, at the conclusion of the video, the youtuber says the call was never made.
Is the driver your brother-in-law or something?

suzy blah blah
Eric is full of shit. There’s no way of knowing for sure if the driver called or didn’t call. The video artist’s face is only shown facing forward for a few seconds. Eric has no way of knowing where he was looking for the rest of the whole episode. Except for when we can clearly see him looking sideways and backwards, ie NOT at the driver. In such a commotion the driver could have easily called in without being noticed by the youtuber.

(Sigh). Okay, at 1:07 into the video, you see the guy with the beard and a dialogue box which reads, “I am so not getting involved in this Muni-fight. I was attacked on the same Muni two weeks ago.”
So freeze the picture in place at 1:07. You see the guy, facing the phone and the front of the bus. Over his shoulder, you see the two women, towards the back of the bus.
Now, if you click on the video twice, it will take you to the youtube page. I was mistaken that the reference to Muni not calling it in was in a dialogue box. It is in the info box next to the video and reads as follows:
Oct 7, 2009 10am, Chinatown San Francisco. This fight occurred on the Muni Stockton route (the 9 i think) just before the stockton tunnel. As you can see, a simple argument about seat-hogging quickly turned into a full blown brawl. It’s pretty clear who threw the first punch, you can see the bus’ serial number, and the exact time in the video.
By the way, this is the same bus where I was attacked 3 weeks ago, so I thought documenting the event was the most important thing I could do. This fight was NOT reported by the driver OR by the MUNI person who happened to be at the final stop (Stockton and Sutter). I’ll be walking to work for a while.
I won’t expect apologies posted here for calling me a liar. I know you feel it in your heart.

The last time I rode the muni in SF, it was really enjoyable. The cost was low and the scheduling was convenient. We must have overheard four or five languages on one bus and the riders were friendly towards one another. some were telling their life stories to complete strangers. I found it the most civil experience of the whole trip. Compared to hassling through traffic and circling for parking, it was easy. Too bad this incident mars what should have been.

Apologies –LOL! The proof that you lied is in the video –right there for all to see. At October 10, 2009 at 6:42 pm you said “He’s also looking right at the driver the whole time.” That’s a lie, because at 1:11 we see him look sideways, and at 1:13 through 1:15 he’s looking backwards. And for the rest of the video we can’t see which way he’s looking. Nice try Eric.
