The NWS has been running an advisory for the entire Pacific Coast, from Washington to Mexico all afternoon. Just get out of and away from, the water.

Well, the Sacramento Bee first said there was no advisory, just a few hours ago. I just heard KHSU say the weather folks issued an advisory for the West Coast, but I missed the specifics except that they mentioned California to Washington.
As I commented on Rose’s blog, should we all go down to the Samoa Bridge and watch Richard Marks and Jennifer Savage get washed into the sea?

Actually, reading the alert above, they’re saying 20 to 65 centimeters. That’s not all that big, even if it does happen, unless it has enough force to go waaay inland.

Fred . . . the issue with a tsunami of the 20 – 65 cm range is that persons in the water or on the beach may/might get caught in stronger than normal or unusual currents by surprise. In much the same way as a sleeper, or rogue, wave can cause harm.

And the swells from a tsunami can be 20-30 minutes wide. Not just an up and down again but sustained.

Yo me the warnings for the PNW shows how self centered we are. I mean great we can make sure we know to be cautious at the waters edge but it is dismal the amount of info/news we are hearing about some of the low laying atolls in the south and central Pacific that might be utterly devastated form such an event.
And in what ways we might be able to help them rebuild their lives. Whole villages build of natural resources depending on the lagoons and oceans for their daily rations could be in dire trouble. Disrupted fresh water supplies and food resources are real threats to their survival.
I pray our friends there are safe. It could be days before we have a real idea of some of the humblest peoples conditions due to the remoteness of their islands. And many more days or weeks before aid efforts get there IF.
