Flanked by Senator Amy Klobuchar and Walter Mondale.
Let’s hope the Democratic leadership doesn’t force him to become boring.
Lots of photos, history, and context in this Daily Kos post.
Addendum: TPM on “Remembering the Funny Al Franken” with lots of videos harvested from Youtube. I wish more early SNL vids with Franken would find their way onto Youtube as well, now that some of the old skits are available on DVD.

He was funny on Saturday Night Live. I wish he had stayed there. He has no business in politics. Artists are socialists because they don’t live in the real world. Giving them actual power is dangerous.

Did you cc these socialists: Clint Eastwood, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Shirley Temple Black, Fred Gandy, Fred Thompson, Ben Jones, and the estates of Sonny Bono and Ronald Regan?
You must have meant SoCal-ists.

Actually, those are good ones. You’re just picking on the opposition.
Oh, and it’s spelled ReAgan.

Ben Jones was a Democrat, Fred. I do try to be even handed.
However, what I have long ago found completely hilarious is the implication by wingnuts, like anon above, of this perceived Socialist/Hollywood/Democrat connection when the reality has been that these same wingnuts become enraptured to the point of orgasm whenever a Hollywoodie decides to get into politics on the Republican side. And, there are a lot more of them than on the Democratic side. Google it yourself. I attribute this perceptional wingnuttiness as a throwback to the McCarthy Inquisition and HUAC hearings of the 40-50′s, fer Krysakes. Ann Coulter has done an outstanding job of influencing these horny bozos. How does she do it?
There are those who spell it, RayGun, too, you know, his “Star Wars” program….

Well, giving SoCal-ists actual power is dangerous, too.

- Clint Eastwood was smart enough to stop at Mayor.
- Arnold has sacrificed his manhood for the glory of being govenator.
- Shirley Temple danced well and had nice dimples.
- Fred Gandy, you’ve got to be kidding. Love Boat politics.
- Who the hell is Ben Jones?
- Sonny Bono, killed skiing headlong into a tree, what a leader.
- Ronald Reagan? Dr. Feelgood.
And not a good actor in the bunch.

“Ben Jones, known as Cooter Davenport on the Dukes of Hazzard, served two terms as a Democrat from Georgia starting in 1988. Defeated for re-election in 1992, he returned to acting. In an unusual twist, he tried but failed to make an electoral comeback from another state, Virginia, in 2002.”
Yes, I know he’s an obscure actor, unless you were a big Catherine Bach, as Daisy Duke, fan from the late 70′s. Shows how few Hollywood Democrat Socialists there actually are/were for wingnuts to complain about.
You have the Repo meme in a wingnut shell: since none of them were good actors they therefor, by wingnut logic, must be good politicians. Quitting is Winning. Military Coups are patriotic democracy in action. Everything is good news for John McCain.

Well, here’s a bumper crop full of right wing actors who did a rather weird ad against Al Franken.

Yes, wingnuts would have high regard for Cliff Claven’s opinion. The inclusion of Stephen Baldwin is interesting since older, socialist, brother, Alec, is considering running against Holy Joe Lieberman in 2012. Very strange family those Baldwins.
Pat Boone?! I forget – is he in ,or out of, the Xtian Right’s good graces this week?
One of, Robert Davi’s, notable accomplishments was being in,Showgirls. Always a popular wingnut Netflix pick.
Victoria Jackson is obviously, the real prototype for Sarah Palin. Tina Fey? phef.
Where was Kelsey Grammar?

He’s managed to stay out of the news since he was sworn in. I miss Paul Wellstone who made waves on his very first day prompting George HW Bush to say, “who is this little chickenshit?”
