Uplifting local economic news, however small, is always welcome. Dazey’s had been forced to close the coffee house due to the economic downturn, and now Marcy Stein is going to open her own business in the space starting tomorrow. She’ll be open for business at the old Pergamino location from 7 to 3 on weekdays and some shorter hours on Saturday.
There aren’t many businesses opening during these times, and it wouldn’t hurt to give her a jump start tomorrow if you’re in the neighborhood.

Oops! Pergalesi’s is in Santa Cruz, where I did much of my homework in college. Sorry Judy!

Cafe Pergolesi in Santa Cruz, moved from its original location behind the old Bookshop Santa Cruz which fell down during the Loma Preita earthquake to another location down the street to the Dr. Miller building.

Kym – I think they may be open now. One of my secretaries came in with a smoothie this morning and she said she got it from a business “behind the gym” after her workout.
Auntie Mayme – I don’t remember a location by the bookstore, but the location I always went to is still there – the victorian near Laurel Street on the edge of downtown. They were a coffee house in the true sense before coffee houses were trendy (or 30 years after depending on how you look at it). They were still there last time I was in Santa Cruz, and apparently they still up and thriving. I spent many an hour there reading up on Hegel, Arrendt, and Habermas. You can only get through that stuff if you’re in a public place where people can see your book so you think you’re earning points as an intellectual. Now it’s probably laptops where you try to let everybody see how avant-guarde your screen saver is.
They’ve even got a website now.

I had my first Juice Jungle Smoothie yesterday. Great fresh organic fruit choices, with a huge range of supplement options. I had Pineapple, Spinach, Mango
juice with hemp protein and acai juice. I felt zippy for hours. I think Lisa has perhaps 5 or 6 different protein types alone. A great community addition!

Just had my first bagel from Cafe Bella. Good and chewy! Not sure where it comes from.
Anyway, the place looks nice. The coffee’s great. It’ll be a regular stop for me, though I have to split my loyalty with Flavors.
