I spoke about this on a radio show some months back, namely that there is a generation gap within the environmental movement.  Younger enviros are convinced that the technology has advanced to the point where nuclear power is a safe bet.  I haven’t read up in detail, but I guess I’ll have to start.  Did they find a solution for the waste?  For the spent reactors?  For me that’s always been a bigger issue than potential accidents, and admittedly with regard to accidents I’m more concerned about the older plants.

But Daily Kos is a solidly leftist site heavily slanted towards younger progressives.  It’s not scientific, but Kos put up a poll of Kossacks and check out these results.

Is there a “nuclear renaissance?”  Are there young progressive green activists out there who believe it’s viable?  I came of age with Three Mile Island.  Talk me down.

Addendum: Slightly related, there’s a chance that Obama may have resolved the Yucca Mountain controversy, an issue which did help him take Nevada.

Resurfacing a neglected highway in Maryland.

The only problem is there may not be any cars to drive on it.  Ford and General Motors are both down in sales by half for the month of February.

Check out all the TPM headlines!  Any Republican who criticizes Rush will be put through the ringer, and now Republican dignitaries everywhere are scrambling for his approval.  He’s in charge.

And then check out Gibbs on video in the Steele thread below.  And Emanuel.  The Republican leadership has to be sweating bricks right about now.

Do you think Rush is secretly a liberal?

Addendum: Rush to Judgment Day!  This has got to be one of the best moments of political theater in years, including last year’s primary.

Second addendum: Fox is dissing Rush.  They obviously realize the story isn’t good for Republicans.  Will they be forced to apologize?

the FBI would be all over them.  Maybe it will be, I don’t know.

I don’t take the position that political views have a great deal to do with personal character.  I think every political ideology has its wacko representatives.  And again, maybe I just didn’t see them, but I don’t remember leftists on forums calling for President Bush’s assassination.  Someone at Kos is compiling comments from Free Republic, the major right wing chat site (I posted some Steele related quotes in the thread below).  I just can’t help thinking that there is a double standard as to what is considered appropriate discourse from one ideological viewpoint to another.  But some of the posts are calling for violence, either against “Muzzies” or against the president.  These are the most direct:

And let’s face it: all the speculation about 0bama being the actual Antichrist will either be confirmed or denied if someone gets off a lucky shot at the SOB.

….

please, someone get this trojan virus in the crosshairs, and soon.

The rest of the posts simply call for impeachment or charges of treason, which of course some on the left called for sometimes in just as shrill a manner.  But I think if there had been any threats of violence against the president from a leftist, most of the rest of us would have responded forcefully.
