Kind of an amusing moment at CPAC convention where the conservative movement is trying to find itself (I feel for you all, really! We on the left have been there.), and Carlson tries to praise Fox News as an example of a good right wing news source, while arguing that right wing news should emulate the New York Times. He says that the Times is a liberal paper, but is a news organizatin first and does care about the accuracy of its reporting. He gets booed for saying it.
Carlson’s MSNBC show didn’t appeal to conservatives, probably because it was on MSNBC, and his show’s ratings suffered. But it had its moments, including this exchange with Rachel Maddow. Everybody credits Olbermann with pumping up Maddow, but she really caught her television break on Carlson’s show.

There is no such thing as liberal mass media. All major broadcast media is owned by rich individuals. Actually “Rich” doesn’t quite cover it. Anyway, they own it all, and all the mass media reflects the views of the Wealth Class exclusively. They are going to keep betraying us. They hate the idea of America as a place where there is equality based on human rights. As opposed to being born into privilege. I don’t understand why people don’t get that. How is it possible for the billionaire executive to claim he is “For America” when America is actually the opposite of everything he believes in. They are all moving to Dubai, to further their war against the U.S. I can’t wait for them to leave so people can finally see them for the traitors they are.

Perfect illustrations of the differing ideological points of view-
Carlson, a whimp in a bowtie
Maddow, a mean, snarky, sarcastic man-girl

For a lengthy chuckle, Google “jon stewart crossfire,” and watch as Jon Stewart skewers Tucker Carlson.
You almost feel sorry for that snotty little prep school dandy.
Almost.

I actually like Carlson. He’s like a young Buckley, using dry wit and a certain level of intellectualism which is missing in today’s talk show dominated “average guy” conservatism. I miss their old elitism.
The CNN show Crossfire is off the air now. In the old days it was too annoying for a liberal like me to watch because they’d put some rabid conservative like Pat Buchanan or Bob Novak up against some milquetoast moderate liberal like Tom Braden or Michael Kinsey. The right winger would say something obnoxious in raw meat fashion, and the lib would wag his finger and say “now now.”
In the later years the roles were somewhat reversed. They brought on Tucker Carlson and Bob Novak to represent the right. They brought on Paul Begala and James Carville to represent the left. Novak is of course a raw meat conservative, but while Carlson’s politics may be red state, his style of debate and dry wit are more blue state. Carville and Begala are the reverse, particularly Carville. So you’d have knock down fights between Carville and Novak (Novak even walked out on one show), but when Carlson was on he was the one trying to have a substantial discussion (just like I think he does with Maddow in the clip, he’s actually quite disarming despite her “open anger”). I would identify with Carville politically, but Carlson culturally.
This is why he’s not on Fox News.

Crossfire’s motif, as you described it, has been resurrected by David Gregory on MTP. I’m still waiting for him to give his top ten list of Tough Questions I Asked The Bush White House. in response to the Scott McClellan’s charge that he so casually brushed off. So far, nuthin.

Rachel Maddow mean?, I don’t find her mean, I do find her pissed. I’m pissed too dammit. Those Republicans have managed to cheat me on my savings for retirement. Banks get bailed out, citizens get thrown out of their homes.
Snarky, yeah she’s snarky, sounds good, some of the things were grossly illegal and I’m not even talking about stealing the election in 2000. I like snarkey in this case. The power given unconstitutionally to the previous occupant of the White House under dubious circumstances, yeah that bothers me…a lot. I am glad she is out there evernight questioning these things and I hope she keeps it up.
Now we have man-girl…what are you referring to here? Her short hair? Her thin figure? Gosh you don’t think she’s a lesbian do ya? I don’t but I could be
wrong. Not that I would care, I like the way she asks questions and the way she thinks.

Upon further reading here on the www I find that there are those who say she is a proud lesbian. I guess they are right.
Well, I hope she has a super life partner to share her off hours with. I think that makes her a woman-woman, not a man-girl.
