Of course it is civil. They need people to attend the show this year. Smile nice and say “Cheese” for the cameras.

I heard that People Productions is not going to be doing Reggae Rising this year. Does anybody know if there is any truth in that. I heard it from Two sources.

Yes — Carol is OUT of the loop in 2009.

I am also about to send out a press release to the public stating that I am about to pay all of my debts and bills on time and that I will also pay my bills that are due in September.
I haven’t actually paid the bills yet but just thought everyone would want to know of my intentions.

I’ve removed a couple of posts which pertains to a rumor. I have no idea if the rumor is true. I need some confirmation.

Whatever do you mean Eric? Of course everyone knows that ___ ____won’t be ________ _____ _____ with ___ ______ this year. Sorry to learn you did not get the memo. We just confirmed this with ___ _____, so I guess this makes it official.

Cute. Look, all somebody has to do is put it into an email to me with a name I don’t have to disclose, and tell me where you got the information. It’s not a rumor that will hurt anybody, but if it isn’t true it’s annoying gossip of which we’ve had enough. Some of these things turn out to be true. Others have turned out to be B.S.

Anyone think of checking the site for advertising? The festival announcement should have the production company named. To have it up and have it not be so would be… um… bad business practices and perhaps purposefully misleading to the public.

I was looking at the Humboldt Trinity Counties phone book for an ‘R’ listing not long ago and noticed a listing for “Reggae On The River – bold letters even- and the # listed there (+ address) is for People Productions. I just rechecked the 2008 – 2009 edition and found it the same.
These are the phone books that were made available to us at the local Ray’s markets – big stacks out front.
If anyone form MCC is reading these posts I keep forgetting to call them and point this out but someone might want to inform the publishers of their mistake for future listings.

I just went to the Reggae Rising site, but didn’t find any mention of People Productions. That’s not to say it’s not there, I just can’t find it. However, the PP site does announced Reggae Rising as one of their events.
The rumor is around, so I’ll go ahead and re-approve the posts. But maybe someone who knows can clarify.
There is a list of performers for this years event at the Reggae Rising site. Lots of video clips as well.

Okay, I now have reason to believe there is truth to the rumor. I’ll leave it at that, since everything I’m getting is third or fourth hand. You’ll probably be hearing all about it soon enough.

Someone has to pay for those listings. Who is paying the bill for the Reggae on the River phone listing? That is what the Mateel should be looking to find an answer too. There is still a lot of confusing information on the web being actively added as well. They need to source that out and stop it too whether it is innocently being done or not.

Somebody told me that the PP attribution appears somewhere at the bottom of the page. I imagine there are negotiations happening and we’ll get some clarification in a few days, but none of the parties is saying much right now so there’s nothing we can do but wait.

My penny worth of info: This posturing happens every year in my experience. I call it the “Spoiled Child” Negotiation Strategy. Stomp your feet, hold your breath, until everyone gives in and sticks a pacifier in it. It is how they drive the price for services up and/or get whatever it is wanted.
And this strategy has worked brilliantly in this community. Every one grabs a deep breath and goes “Oh no! What will happen?” Instead of just saying it has been fun but we’ll be fine and move ahead without the stubborn child.
The child will always follow in my experience. And when they catch up torture you with their evidence of how horribly you have treated them.
As the Stomach Turns.

Negotiations is the key point here Eric I think. IMHO Production companies really don’t have any special skills to sell that other people don’t have or can’t come up with pretty easy. What they have is a roladex instead. High value needs to be created when in negotiating otherwise why not just hire regular workers to do the job.
Well if things go in keeping with how they have gone before. Next rumor should be how the coordinators are refusing to work for anybody but Peoples (of course this can’t be verified by anyone because no coordinator wants to be on the wrong side of this answer in the biz). The under text comes through as you had better pay up buddy or else we all walk.
Hmm. I think there is a set of those little paper ink cards in here somewhere. You know the ones that you flip through and it makes the characters look like they are in motion.

I had not been to a Reggae festival here in So Hum for a lot of years becasue it got to be lame but last year’s Reggae on the River® was like back to the future. Just a fun time. I’ll volunteer and pay my way in. That is how much fun I had. yeee hawwwwwww.
