Only one of my favorites made it into the final contestants, but that’s probably for the better.
“Obamicon” won and will be aired. It’s all right. Not even my favorite of the finalist bunch though.
A nice editorial. Here’s an excerpt:
Clendenen has a business-owner’s sense of budget knowledge that will be needed as the Board of Supervisors deals with the upcoming county funding crisis. His involvement in the Fortuna general plan update has been a tune-up for the coming battle over the county’s update. And our conversations with him showed him to be knowledgeable about a wide range of Humboldt issues. But most of all, what tipped us to favor Clendenen over Estelle Fennell of Redway is his moderate, inclusive stance that should enable him to reach out to all factions in a politically splintered district. He knows people throughout the district, speaks their language, and has shown a willingness to be a bridge to consensus in problem-solving.
On a side note, the editorial does contain a couple of factual errors about election law. It states that when Roger died it was too late for Johanna to file for a write-in candidacy. Actually, the deadline was May 20. And it suggests that Johanna may be on the ballot in November on “her own right.” But after Tuesday, only two candidates will be considered in the fall. There can be no write-in candidacy.
You can read portions of the TS interview with Clif. Or listen to the audio.
(Meanwhile Hank, trust your initial instincts!)
Addendum: Heraldo’s discussing the endorsement (and the factual errors). Carol and Greg have taken it up as well.
