David Barsamian to Speak and Sign Books in Southern Humboldt (Redway/Garberville)
David Barsamian, recently returned from Turkey, Syria, Lebanon and Iran, will discuss the situation in these countries and his new book, “Targeting Iran,” on Sunday, September 16th at 7:00 pm at The Garberville Veteran’s Hall, corner of Conger and Maple Lane in Garberville. A more intimate & casual gathering at the Redway bookstore, on Redwood Drive is planned for the late afternoon on Sunday the 16th ; call Kathy or Paul for more information at 923 4488.
Barsamian, who is Armenian, speaks some Farsi and is knowledgeable about the politics and culture of Iran and the Middle East. He lectures around the world on U.S. foreign policy, the media, propaganda, and corporate power. He is the author/editor of 14 books, including “Imperial Ambitions,” with Noam Chomsky, and “The Decline and Fall of Public Broadcasting.” “Targeting Iran” examines today’s U.S.-Iran standoff through interviews with Noam Chomsky, Ervand Abrahamian and Nahid Mozaffari. He will also sign books after his talk.
David Barsamian is also the founding director of Alternative Radio, the independent, award winning weekly series, broadcast on KMUD every Monday at 9:00 am, which presents information and perspectives that are ignored or distorted in the corporate-controlled media. He is the winner of the Democracy Media Award, ACLU’s Upton Sinclair Award for Independent Journalism, and the 2006 Lannan Foundation Fellowship. The Institute for Alternative Journalism named David one of its “Top Ten Media Heroes.”
Admission is free, but donations are appreciated to help cover costs. Bring some snacks to share, starting at 6PM at the Veteran’s Hall; David will speak starting at 7:00PM.
